Do not stay here. My boyfriend booked this hotel due to the photos posted by the business. It was not what he expected. The room we got was dirty, the carpets are sticky, there is dust on the bed frames that is obvious that's been there for a very long time, which is surprising considering covid. Wi-Fi does not work. When he complained, the person at the front desk offered blankets and said they were completely booked and we would not be able to switch rooms. Which was not true a lot of rooms were available... the following day when I questioned about Wi-Fi another employee brushed off the question like I didn't know how to connect to Wi-Fi.

Great, and affordable my wife and I stayed a night .❣️❣️

First and last!!! Will NOT be coming back here. We were woken up (Thursday & Friday) every morning with the loud sound of garbage trucks picking up garbage right under our window. The floor is filthy (walking barefoot is not recommended). Pay the extra $20 a night and go next door at SeaCrest. They have more amenities - pool, lots of fire pits, access to the beach and a much more cleaner and well kept property.

The location is right by the beach and pretty clean in the room. However, the direct beach access from the motel (as advertised) was closed off so booking this place was pretty much pointless. Also, NO AIR CONDITIONING so the room was very warm between the hours of 5 to 10 pm even with the windows open due to no air flow. Also, I found it strange our bathrooms window is chest high so people in the parking lot outside can pretty much see u naked. Its easy to close but its also the only window that provides any air flow when opened. Won't b booking this place in the future.

One of the worst hotels. What you see in the pictures they advertise is not what in reality. Small old rooms with paper thin walls. You can hear every word that was said in other rooms. No microwave. No tub. Small dark shower with mold. Shower head is by the shower entrance, sprays water out of shower. Overpriced for what they offer
    Also no beach access!!!!!

Friendly and helpful staff, room was quaint and clean but a little small. Gorgeous view of the ocean and lots to do and see nearby. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was tiny but had nice towels and toiletries. The room had a mini refridgerater and a microwave. Its in a safe, quiet location off the heavily beaten path at least with little bbqs outside.

I try to stay away from the Motel feel, somehow it seemed this room was worse than that. Paid for a partial ocean view, assuming that would not mean stepping outside the room for the view. Bummed to find there was no AC unit. Opened the window in the bathroom in hopes for some type of ventilation only to find there was no screen which would allow for bugs to be welcomed. Speaking of bugs, I woke in the early morning hours to find a bed bug crawling under the sheets. My niece and sister were traveling with me, and my niece woke up with flea bites all over her body. Mind you, we did not travel with pets! Also while looking for my sisters missing earring we discovered dog food under the bed, which was a clear indication the room had not been properly cleaned! There is a first and last for everything, and unfortunately this will be our last. First impressions are the most lasting.

Staffs were very friendly. We originally booked for 5 nights but decided it wasn’t for us and checked out after 1 night stayed. The view is great but the cottage they put us in was very outdated, hot (main windows didn’t open) had a weird musty smell not to mention walls were dirty. Would definitely return/recommend if cottages/rooms got updated. On the upside, the dogs really enjoyed the front view of the beach.

  • Aug 12, 2020 by Epi gene

The best part of Tides Ocean view was the location with really gorgeous views. The rooms were very dated. Stayed in one of their 2-bedroom cottages. Really nice view of the ocean. All the rooms really in dire need of updating- dining chair and tables almost falling apart; sitting area needed more upkeep and cleaning. The beach access was good, a block of walking from the hotel.

  • Aug 10, 2020 by Sherry Noe

The room was very dated ,we reserved the king room with view a personal balcony . For the price we were very disappointed it had no bath no microwave or even iron or ironing bored. The view was nice not exceptional as they stated . No beach access and very noisy due to being next to freeway can't enjoy the sounds of the ocean.

RUDE customer service! Our room only had 2 full size towels for a family of 5 for two nights. I asked for towels at front desk and the lady rudely advised me that she has no more towels “at all”. The “wifi” does not work, whatsoever. Can not connect my laptop because it doesn’t reach the wifi connection. The toilet has been clogged since we checked in and keeps overflowing and flooding the bathroom for no reason. We had to use our only 2 shower towels to clean up the toilet water and they still won’t give us more towels. There is no phone in here and also the TV connection keeps losing signal. Very out-dated and old inside. Last time we stay here.

We had a great time! 5 minute walk to the beach —with an often overlooked vantage point—the bench half to the sand. It advertised $311 per night and even during the busiest nights at Pismo Beach—they shouldn’t charge more than $150–probably $100 lol. But people bid up these places and spots so much that you can’t blame the owners. It was a motel 6 before they came up with the fancier name of the tides lol. The view is enough to pay 200 a night for tho imo.

I corresponded with Debbie On May 27, 2020, and reserved 3 rooms for my family, parents, and In -Laws to stay at The Tides Oceanview Inn & Cottages for a few days starting June 24, 2020. My wife and I planned a birthday party for my daughter who is turning two years old, so this stay was going to be a special event for our entire family. On June 24, 2020, I received an email stating my reservations were cancelled. I also received a phone call from Debbie informing me they had maintenance issues with a water heater forcing them to replace the water heater unit. My reservations were push back one day and discounted to make up for the inconvenience. Thank you Debbie for your communication and professionalism.

Beautiful view of the beach from the balcony. Good rooms

  • May 29, 2020 by Destiny Perez

Well they said we were going to get a ocean view but we did not and we said ok fine it is just one night but then when we entered the rooms it was like a motel the bathroom was small we had the view of the parking lot the walls are thin the bathroom door did not lock no ac we had a fan and we could not figure out the tv the only good part was when someone is taking a shower it’s quiet you can’t hear the water running and the front door had a lock

  • May 29, 2020 by ll zg

The rooms are old and small. No manager on site , ocean view is an overstatement. Oceanview but from the parking lot, not what is advertised. Blue seals and this hotel are the same thing the difference is that they charge you 3 times more. Very disappointed I do not recommend this place.

Friendly staff. Easy and quick check-in. My family and I stayed in the beach house during our visit. The beach house was very spacious and semi-comfortable for two small families, a total of 10 (one being an infant), with a beautiful view! The house was a bit out-dated, which normally is not a problem, as we usually enjoy a break away from modern day living. However, some of the out-date features in this house were a small inconvenience. One of the three showers was inoperable (the middle bathroom), no biggie, as we were still able to use the other two showers. The water pressure in the showers was very high, to the point where myself and my younger children could not stand directly under the water. We attempted to use the bathtub in one of the bedrooms (with queen beds) and upon warming the water in the tub, the pipes began to rattle loudly throughout the entire house, so we went back to using the shower. The shower door in that same bathroom would not close all the way, allowing water to spill on the floor. The only other inconvenient experience was dealing with the sofa beds. We were really relying on using both sofa beds for the older children, however the blue sofa in the game room was broken and could not be pulled out and the sofa mattress in the living room was so thin that the bed rails could be felt while laying on the bed. Luckily, we had brought our air mattress from home to use just in case. So two of the kids had to sleep on the living room sectional. I do believe I seen an extra air mattress in one of the closets, however at the end of the day I didn't want to take a chance on a mattress that I wasn't sure would deflate over night. Other than the showers and the sofa beds, our experience was very enjoyable. The kids had lots of fun using the pool table and Foosball table. Full sized kitchen was fully stocked with small appliances that made it easy for us to cook our own breakfast. We ordered out for dinner (Cool Cats was delicious, and Del's pizza for the kids) and they delivered right to the door. The cottages are fairly close to each other, with outdoor gathering areas allowing neighboring visitor noise to come through the walls. However this was not a problem for us. After being sheltered at home for 2 months, the extra noise of families enjoying themselves did not bother us. The view of the ocean from the game room was beautiful!! One more downfall was the private beach access stairs were blocked off. It would have been very convenient to walk down to the beach using those stairs, but the drive to the pier was only blocks away, so that made up for it. I think just a couple of updates to the beach house (sofa beds and showers) would make this house even more enjoyable. I would probably return again to experience the smaller cottages.

Great place! Hope to make an annual tradition of coming to the Tides. The beach house is a great space for large groups.

  • Feb 23, 2020 by Elisa Zamora

I completely agree with the walls being paper thin I am wide awake because my husband can not sleep because they put what sounds like a family of 7-10 people next to us. Mixture of children and adults it sounds like. They have been super loud since the moment they got here, wich was about 1 hour after we arrived. We could hear word for word conversations. The kids sound like they are wrestling with eachother up until now 1am... What is really upsetting is that I am trying to call the hotel number so that they could tell these people to quiet down but it does not go through. I even tried the phone in the room nothing works and the office is closed. Other than this the hotel was good clean, friendly staff.

We continue to njoy The Tides Inn and all Pismo has to offer. Always a 1st choice to stay and staff are friendly and helpful

  • Jan 27, 2020 by Derek Stewart

Quite dated rooms and kitchen. But still a great little cottage for our family vacation! Clean and comfortable. Fairly quick coastal access to the beach via steps at hotel next door. Short walk to center of town even. Loved our stay all across the board!

  • Dec 28, 2019 by Mack Stevenson

We booked for a family of 5 and they gave us a room that sleeps 4 (2 queen beds) they saw that we requested a air mattress of their website and when we got there they said they don’t do it anymore. We had to book another room for 1 person which they charged us 120 usd for. The worst part was the knee that we booked for five and they knew they didn’t have a room for us but they didn’t tell us that until we got there. They were planning to have someone from our family sleep on the floor

Stayed here for 2 nights for the christmas holiday. We stayed in Cottage 120, which has a living room, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms with king beds and a full bathroom. This inn is one of the few that also still allow dogs, which is the main reason we choose this place. Keep in mind that this inn/cottage is very outdated, including the furniture ans cabinets.

Good things: The view from the living is fantastic. The space is cottage is decent, if you are traveling with more than a few adults or pets. Beds as decently comfortable spring mattresses (except the sofa bed is not comfy). Full kitchen is great, if you are traveling around the holidays since most restaurants have limited hours. Staff was friendly and helpful. Wifi connection was strong and we had no issues. The welcome snack bag was a nice touch. The place was generally clean and they offered lots of toiletries. The wall heater worked well, as there is a drift that comes in and can make the house chilly. We had to turn off in the middle of the night as we got too hot. Although there is no direct beach access, the 2 block walk was close and nice.

Not so great things: The living room furniture is OLD and DIRTY. Very stained and worn. We used other bedding to cover, so we can sit on it. The pipes old, so expect luke warm water for your showers. Overgrown trees and landscape blocked a perfect view of the ocean from the kitchen (which is very dark).

FYI: Since this is a cottage, it does offer plates, utensils, and pots. You will have to bring your own napkins, food, seasonings. Fridge is not a full size, so keep in mind that space is limited. Lots of dogs, which can be great or not so great depending if your dog is friendly.

Overall stay was okay. I just hope when they tear down and rebuild in the next few years, they will still allow pets.

Good location. Mediocre rooms - bathrooms, cabinets in dire need of an upgrade.

    Most reviews seem overstated

We visited for a weekend getaway and stayed in Rm 209. This is an excellent remodeled classic beach hotel. The room was nicely decorated and the bedding was exceptionally comfortable. This place looks "old school," but has been obviously remodeled, without losing that road trip charm. The staff was also very kind and this little gem is in close walking distance to some fantastic food and shops. I have literally one tiny suggestion: a couple of extra towel hooks in the bathroom would  be nice. We will definitely visit again!

We know Tides hotel from our previous visits。We used to stay in Seacrest which is also pet friendly hotel。 This time when we book the place to stay, we thought we might pick something different。 The staff over the phone is of standard customer service, but the information give was accurate; the staff manned the front desk was very friendly and welcoming。 here is our 4 stars reason: 1.  The whole place is considering cute, no beach access but it's close enough, besides if anyone wants to do a short cut, they can use the neighbor's walk way. The mini shore overlook provides a nice view and quiet ocean time. 2. The facility is old but overall is clean, Beddings are very clear and comfort,  the room has basic supply, coffee maker, mini fridge, mini heater and stand up fan, We bring in all our own stuff so the stay is comfort. The bath room is big enough to have all necessary business done, the shower is small, that makes me think back in last century people constructed the building, did they have a right measurement of human body size... 3. We have a 70 lb GSP, the front grassing square is very convenient for pet to do small play and relieve. The time we stay is not a hot season, so there are some vacancy, in general it's quite, the passing traffic is the sound we hear. Ocean wave is not big enough for people to hear. 4. The pricing is reasonable for what the facility can offer. The good news is the site is going to have a major make over, in other words, they will remake the whole hotel, if that's the case what we get today will be a history forever. Some years later we can proudly claim we tried the old fashion Pismo beach hotel at our one birthday traveling. 5. In order to give more realistic review, I leave 1 star out as it's an old structure as well as it's a small one for the hotel side, we do not use the cottage side, so don't have any comment on that part. Personally I prefer to stay on first floor as it's easy for us to open the door and let our big fur person out right there. When we walk in the room on the second floor, I realized something that the staff gave us a better choice as the sound block of the building is not that good, so with people walking over head, that will trigger a lot of night time fur person alarm system. For our dog people, you know what I am talking about. It's worth the experience staying in this long standing one of the icon hotels in Pismo especially you know you won't have this for long and even. You relive 70's I guess. Enjoy.

Light sleepers beware of room 110. If noises are an issue avoid this place all together. I really wanted to rate this place better but I just can't. I haven't even checked out but I am here wide awake at 7:30 am because of noise upstairs. Whoever made the decision to put a game room in room 210 is cruel because the walls/floors are paper thin and you can hear EVERY SINGLE MOVE. I think there is pool table and foosball table in the suite room directly above us. Whoever is in there played until 2am and started playing again at 7am. if there isn't a game table maybe we just got unlucky but people were walking around nonstop. I am here on a work trip and worked until 10pm. I wanted to sleep in before my 6 hour drive back home. Additionally you can hear freeway traffic but I could handle that. But upstairs..... Beds were comfortable, the sleep I did get was great, the place seemed clean. It is older but I didn't find that an issue. Bathroom wasn't the best. It wasn't a bad room overall. But man this room placement has been a nightmare for me as a light sleeper who is sensitive to noise. So if you are the same, book elsewhere or to a single cottage. P.S. if you are on the second floor be cautious of walking around. the floors are so thin. I am not mad at them they probably have no idea how loud it was for us but if you are reading this you do, be kind to who is below you. I feel like the single cottages would be wonderful but the rooms on the building not so much.

  • Oct 05, 2019 by Justin P.

The building itself felt old (thin walls and windows) but it was well managed and well provisioned. Very comfortable beds with nice linens, very friendly and helpful staff. The landscaping was inviting with several nice places to sit and relax. The hotel is right next to the beach, but the beach access stairs appear to be permanently closed.

OMG THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST EXPERIENCE I would send everyone to Debbie and Jody . Debbie upgraded us to ocean front and there pet friendly on top of that best service ever I couldn't be more happier with the experience. After so many year of going to pismo Debbie your the best

  • Sep 20, 2019 by Amado F.

Let me start off by saying the staff and management are amazing!! After looking for hotels in Pismo Beach area I wasn't able to find one that allowed pets. The Tides Inn had rooms available for us and the Manager Debbie & Jodie really made our trip wonderful. Thank you girls for making our trip amazing! I will be coming back for my next trip to Pismo. You honestly made our trip. Thank you Debbie!!! I recommend this place, especially with anyone with pets!

  • Sep 17, 2019 by Julie Pinnell

Good location. Reception staff were very friendly and the welcome basket was a nice touch but our room was very basic and the front door didnt shut properly. The bathroom was tiny and again very basic. We only stayed here for one night but if we'd have been here longer, I would have asked to have changed rooms. Was expecting better for the price we paid compared to other motels we stayed in during our 2 week trip around California.

  • Sep 17, 2019 by Mixail Vasiliev

The cottage we stayed in was awful! It was very dirty, floors were sticky and filthy. It looks like it has not been washed in years. Discussing and disappointing! The access to the beach has been closed for a while. This place needs complete renovation. Please check Yelp reviews before you decide to visit this place.

  • Sep 09, 2019 by David Pinnell

Stayed for a night as a stopover whilst on our way to LA from Monterey....the staff were friendly. The room had every thing you needed and was clean but a bit dated and the front door didn't lock properly and had big gaps around it..... Paid for a sea view which we just about had. Stayed in 3 motels on our trip and this was our least favourite.

  • Sep 01, 2019 by Jason L.

We loved our stay here.  The front desk was especially helpful to our family.

  • Aug 09, 2019 by bbsquirre...

Hotel is quaint and one of very few places in the area that allow pets to stay. We found the room to be nice with wonderful location overlooking the ocean and pier. We woke up to see a humpback whale in view from just outside our room. Staff was nice but hard to rate as we had very little interaction. The only complaint is the 2 bars of soap were in boxes as if they were new and fresh but upon opening both, the soap bars were used with black hairs on them! While this may be a cost-saving measure for the hotel, it is best to provide new, unused soap to guests to ensure cleanliness.

  • Aug 06, 2019 by Lili Traband

Quite comfortable upstairs room and bed for an affordable rate. Location is great too if you can manage to cut through the SeaCrest to access beach. Staff was super friendly and room was clean. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely place to stay while on a road trip!! Lovely place, views, amenities...a five star experience!! We stayed there one night (last night) and wanted to stay much longer! Lovely family room with an amazing view!

  • Jul 23, 2019 by Sylvia D.

This is a quaint older hotel. Nothing too fancy but not as expensive as fancy can be. The view from the point on the bluffs is beautiful. Yes there is not beach access directly from the Inn but it is just next door and not a difficult walk. The woman at the desk were more than helpful when we had an issue but all was taken care of nicely. The Willow restaurant next door is amazing.

  • Jul 17, 2019 by Angie B.

This place had terrible reviews on Vrbo but the pictures looked so good I wanted to go anyway. This was very foolish of me. The VRBO reviews said that the cottages were owned by the tides motel/hotel so I phoned them directly for information. The woman that answered the phone was not friendly when I asked her if she could tell me more about the cottage and when I directly asked her if it was available for my dates, she said that it was. I booked the cottage through Vrbo and received a confirmation. My concern grew when I received a string of emails asking me for more information about my singular guest even though her name was included in the reservation. Shortly there after I received an email and a phone call letting me know that my reservation was canceled because they had double booked and allegedly booked the room a year in advance to some other party but failed to log it in their system. Curious. I phoned again and spoke with the woman who originally told me the room was available. She claimed there was nothing she could do and that I should just pick a different travel dates. I asked if they could give us a discount for the inconvenience and she said a manager would call me back the next day. That was over two weeks ago. Maybe we should believe the long string of people that say this place is horrifying?!?

We were looking for a last minute place for our anniversary. Since we had conflicting info on the booking websites, hubby called hotel directly. Adam is one of the the BEST front desk clerks we have ever dealt with. He could teach a class on customer service! He beat the booking sites prices, upgraded us, and even sent up a complimentary bottle of a nice refreshing wine to the room! Our boys and 2 small dogs (yes, they are pet friendly) were given another room on the ground floor. This room also had an ocean view . The room we had (Room 210) was quaint and clean. Very comfortable king size bed with a wonderful panoramic view of the ocean. The bathroom had a view as well. You also have your own private gas fire pit on the balcony outside your room. We spent a lovely early evening at sunset watching the ocean. The rooms have a keurig coffee machine . The welcome basket was a nice touch as well. You are in walking distance to the beach access stairs and a lovely beach walk is highly recommended.

The location can't be beat. So, if your goal is to surf, this is a great hotel. However, it definitely wasn't as it was advertised. There were no outlets, no A/C, nowhere to sit other than the bed, no view, and the bathroom had no counters for anything.

Rented a 2 bedroom cottage which was perfect for a great sisters weekend. Cottage is dated but the Inn provides current amenities (full kitchen, cable TV, adirondak chairs outside for sunsets) for a relaxing evening after a day touring the coastal towns or beach time. Beach access from this location is fenced off due to erosion of the cliff/stairs. Also disappointed that check-in is 4pm and check out is 11am.

  • May 16, 2019 by S G.

Not worth the money.  Pictures on the website are highly deceiving.  I booked a king room for a special weekend with my husband.  We were so excited to have an ocean view room that looked really nice on the website, but we couldn't have been more disappointed.  The room was clean and odorless, but everything is old and worn down.  The carpet was commercial grade with no padding underneath. There was so much space between the door and the frame that the ocean air came right in.  I guess it would've been ok if it was September, but we were there in April and it was cold!  We tried blocking the cool air coming in with a blanket. The bathroom was awful.  You literally could sit on the toilet and wash your face in the sink at the same time.  The door to an old water heater closet inside the bathroom couldn't close, so cold hair was coming in from floor vents. There is no space in the bathroom to put your things.  They said a hairdryer was provided in the room....there was no hairdryer.  The tub was disgusting.  There was a good size old kitchen attached to the room that only had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker.  All the cabinets and drawers were empty.  What a waste of space! The only good thing about this room was the view (through an old rusted window with cheap plastic blinds).

It's been quite a while since my last visit, but It never leaves me. This is the very place that has it all. A gorgeous Costal Resort. Conveniently located along Carters Creek in Irvington Va.. Amenentitienies abound from sailing, oystering, biking and an exquiste dining experience. MY favorite the spa and waterside pool. Highly recommended. Come and relax!

My sister and I stayed at The Tides in April 2019. The weather was perfect! We stayed in a small cottage at the cliff end of the property and we could hear the waves. Our room was very clean and had a microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. The beds were comfortable and there was a quilt at the bottom of the bed if it was chilly. It was very quiet and peaceful. They provided personal amenities and a Keurig Coffee maker. The staff was very friendly and courteous, both at check in, check out and on the phone. This is not a beach side hotel however very nice to stay and a short drive to downtown and the Pier.

The pictures are deceiving. However we enjoyed staying here. It is an older building and it shows but we booked a room last minute while driving down the coast and it was a good quick spot to rest for the night. It has a cute sitting area with a fire pit and horseshoes, and another fire pit closer to the lobby. And the hotel is right on the water.

I have never stayed here in the 35 years I have vacationed in Pismo but it was very comfortable, clean and had a beautiful view. We took a last minute trip to Pismo after laying my sister to rest so that we ( my mom and I)and her two youngest children could clear our minds. It was very nice. Thank you for having a room last minute on Easter Weekend.

The Tides Oceanview Inn in Pismo beach is charming, serene, fairly priced hotel, a remembrance of the past and how hotels used to be. In a good way (not as in dated and bad, though it does have that 80's feel so if you want a corporate hotel, that it is not). 20 or so rooms. Several are cottages that are beach front. Such a calm, charming stay. Elizabeth at the front desk was wonderful and accommodating. The hotel group that bought the hotel plan to tear it down in December 2019 to replace with a "better" new design. We will be returning as much as possible this year before they turn it into another mega-strip hotel with no character like all the others on this street in Pismo/in the world nowadays. A tragedy!

  • Apr 10, 2019 by Irma Jassomendez

What a great romantic getaway! The cottage was quaint and reminiscent of the 40s .... not fancy...but very comfy and that ocean view from my porch was to die for. Pls retain some of that old fashion charm as you expand and remodel.

  • Apr 06, 2019 by CINDY DRURY

nice views and cabin cozy feeling in the room. Not modern at all. good accommodations at a decent price. Near everything in Pismo Beach and Shell Beach.

  • Apr 02, 2019 by M Saki

Pet friendly. Expect grasses to smell when wet. Room no smell but can get warm since no AC. Standing electric fan available. One window did not hold open so asked for piece of wood to wedge it open. Clean sheets and towels. Shower stall small even for petite person.More than enough king sized pillows.

Oceanview but no beach access directly from the inn. Stairs going down the beach from the inn dilapidated and fenced off for safety. Near the street so if noise sensitive, bring ear plugs.

It would have been perfect beach weather weekend until I checked out. I was just asking white haired lady at check out what was the extra charge which was pet fee, and she went into tirade about I booked though Expedia so she did not know how much they are charging and they do not give out receipt. Lady, chill! Short simple answer that it was pet fee would suffice.

The room we stayed in had a nice view of the ocean...but room is super dated, small, and walls are paper thin. Some windows wouldnt open. Oh, and noooo hair dryer!! The electrical options were a bit sketchy as they were extension cords. We had no beach access due to broken stairs and had to walk a ways to another hotel and use their access. Im sure there are other options that offer move for the price.

Good place to spend the night on our way down the pch to LA! Close proximity to the boardwalk area and the ocean itself! Place is old but,.as they say old is gold!

  • Mar 15, 2019 by Brittan S.

We loved this place! After traveling 7 hours with no hotel reservation, we settled onand were so glad we did. I'm glad I didn't read these past reviews before deciding because we would have missed out on a great diamond in the rough. Yes, it's an old motel, but it was tidy, clean, and adorable with a GREAT view for a more affordable price than any others nearby. The manager was very helpful during check-in. We got the last ocean-view room available -- #118. The grounds were cute with succulents and flowers down the path to our room. Once we got there, we were so surprised to find our cute, private deck perfect for watching the sunset. We spent all evening out there! The room was old and had a few flaws - old windows, a loose fixture in the shower - but considering how old the hotel was and our budget, these hardly mattered. The flooring and paint had been updated, and the furniture was cute. The shower had good water pressure. The beds were clean and comfortable enough. Huge windows let us see the sunset and the ocean from our beds. WiFi connection had no issues. The jist -- if you're looking for ocean view on a budget, this is it. We loved our room and had a great time!

Un pregio : vicino al mare ! Super rumoroso, perché di fianco all’ autostrada . Non c’è sala per colazione. L’accesso al mare è chiuso , da tempo . Malandato . Si può trovare di meglio . Rapporto qualità prezzo pessimo!

There are some really scary reviews here and I wished I had not read them prior to my visit. My brother booked this place for one night for as a part of our Pacific Hwy 1 Drive. We didn't do our bookings on time during december holiday season and somewhat left to scramble for that evening and ended up here. This is a typical beach motel, bare bone, dated amenities and possibly questionable linens. I wish he booked a more commercial holiday inn a little more inland because this place has no "beach access." When he did the booking, he found this statement enticing thinking that we could perhaps walk directly from the motel area to the beach ---- NOT TRUE. The correct statement would be "beach access nearby."   Anyways for those travelers passing by, I was only here for ONE NIGHT and my experience was OK. No A/C didn't make a difference since it was december. There was no odor issues.  There was nice hot water in a VERY tiny bathroom shower stall w/ NO counter space. I was very skeptic about the bed linens after reading the reviewing but I promise you my germaphobic self scanned through her sheets and found them acceptable. I traveling w/ an emergency pillowcase so I used that in this instance but otherwise it ok. Not my first recommendation/choice but it was ok for a  quick night.

We stayed here for one night on our way up the coast. Perfectly adequate accommodations. The beach was beautiful. Could watch the sun set from the room. Check in was easy and quick. Easy access and easy parking. A gem still alive from the great old days.

  • Feb 21, 2019 by hometownB...

We stayed here one night. The pictures are prettier than the actual room. They don’t clean the rooms. You can see the bathroom door below. The beds were fine but everything else was dirty. Receptionist was friendly.

  • Feb 11, 2019 by Janine gertsch

I enjoyed my stay here, but I always prefer the quaint older hotels with history than the newer sleeker ones. Heads up the shower is small!

  • Feb 11, 2019 by Laura Lee-Stewart

It's the best for charm and value, however this property is destined for gentrification. Enjoy now till November 2019. Elizabeth at checkout was wonderful.

  • Jan 31, 2019 by Rick Mireles

We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage and we loved it. Yes it's old, but its clean and the beds are new and luxurious. Everything functioned and you couldn't beat the views. We entertained a party of 7 and it was more than adequate. We'll be back for sure. If your used to a Ritz carlton go there and don't leave bad reviews.

  • Jan 31, 2019 by Lynn D.

Loved this place!!!  Bed was the least of the stay-- everything else was awesome!  Greg the gm was a big help-- Amanda was super efficient with checking in and dinner suggestions and Oscar-- thank you for letting us see the cabins!  Hope to see you in the spring!!!

  • Jan 16, 2019 by Mike_in_C...

We picked The Tides because of the location and reasonable price. It’s right on the beach (no direct access, though) with beautiful views. When we checked in we expressed some concern about traffic noise, and the manager gave us room 210, and that made it special. This room on the second floor has two walls with big windows and spectacular views. The hotel isn’t new, and could use some improvements, but the beds are comfortable and everything works.

  • Jan 08, 2019 by rro

The motel simple, but everything you expect. It could use a few more hooks to hang a towel in the bathroom. There is no longer direct access to the beach from the property, but the view is exceptional. I like the mid-century vibe. I walked into the centre of Pismo, and it only took 15 minutes. Very good value.

  • Jan 07, 2019 by Madam L.

This place was lovely and a great pet friendly lodging option for us. We rented a cottage to avoid Sharing walls with anyone to avoid potential 'holiday party disturbances' (we were there for Christmas) A cottage for just two people was kind of pricey, and a bit over kill for the two of us, but it was worth the privacy... for the most part. The cottages have sweet little grassy back yards, perfect for dogs! And adorable front lawns with chairs to watch the ocean. The grounds were clean and overall pleasant. The cottage was larger than I expected, a full living room area, large kitchen, and two full bedrooms with dressers and closets. The bathroom had a shower tub and it was all quite nice. It wasn't the cleanest place I've stayed (very dusty window sills and bathroom accessories, crusty bathroom fixtures and the dishes were sticky) but all within very normal expectations of a beach town vacation rental. - the cottages are 1940's construction and I think they are charming. But expect some of the things that come with that charm!! My only reason I give it a 3 star instead of a 4 is that I had originally booked two nights online at a rate I was comfortable at. A few weeks before our trip we decided it would be nice to add a day if possible. So I called down and although they were very friendly and accommodating... the night we added was at a 50% increase over the other nights we booked! I wasn't made aware of it until I checked out. It was a shock and left me feeling pretty bummed out. I did ask at the desk about the very noticeable difference between the nights and was simply told "our rates change, that's what it is" - the day I called in to add a night their website was advertising a 35%off deal for the period we were staying... But I certainly didn't get THAT rate! Everything was nice, but I left feeling taken advantage of for booking over the phone.

A family checked in above our room and they let their 2 year old and 5 year old run around, jump, scream, and throw things against the walls till 2am in the morning. Even after my husband banged the ceiling, they continued for another hour. I let the front desk know and he just shrugged his shoulders and told me they checked out this morning. If only I was able to complain to the front desk, unfortunately they close at 11.

  • Dec 31, 2018 by Sophie Agricola

We made our reservation in November, over the phone, specifically to request a top floor room, preferably with a view. We were told this would be no problem at all. When the confirmation email never came, we called back to inquire. Gave corrected spelling of email address and thought all was well. Upon check in, we were told the only room available was on the ground floor, w/out a view. We were told that the room had been changed when we called back the 2nd time but this was never a requested change and we were never told that change had to be made. Our shower had a very leaky faucet. The shower curtain fell repeatedly. When the room above us showered, the water made loud glugging sounds in our shower. A neighboring room had a dog that barked excessively. And the family with children above us was so loud for 2 days that we tried calling the front desk to ask them to quiet down. Very, very disappointing.

  • Dec 31, 2018 by August K

We had a short stay at The Tides this past weekend and really enjoyed it. Family friendly with a warm and accommodating staff. The view is amazing, and the highway noise is not an issue. Affordable and comfortable.

  • Dec 28, 2018 by The Amanda Show

The room stunk like cigarettes and was tiny and outdated. And I was charged a pet fee when I specifically asked about this when I made the reservation and wasn’t told about extra charges until I saw it come through my bank account. I could have paid $200 for a much better room with an actual ocean view.

  • Dec 27, 2018 by jessica t.

Interesting that all the reviews are so bad.... Amanda greeted us when we checked in and she might be the most professional and sweetest person ever. She was helping people before we could check in and they were having a rough trip, but she made their trip better too! Rooms are old, but not dirty like everyone said. Gate to beach is closed only because stairs need to be fixed. Fire pits are great and you can see and hear the beach. I only have 4 stars because you really can hear everything lol. We were on bottom story and you can hear every foot step, every sneeze, literally everything. Later, I asked the manager (cannot remember his name) if we could move rooms or go into a cottage thing etc and he was super helpful as well! Unfortunately, his hands were tied because they're completely booked, but he did offer ear plugs! He was super sweet! Thank you all for making our trip amazing!

  • Dec 26, 2018 by Joshua Nykamp

It was a nice room, it had a wall so it had a little privacy between where my kid slept and I slept. It's walking distance to downtown and has a great view at the end of the parking lot.

  • Dec 22, 2018 by Oui Dahling

Oceanside hotel for a decent price. Make your coffee in the AM and stroll down to the coastline cliff view which is accessible to all and beautiful. Didn’t appreciate the thin walls (woke up to someone having a “great” morning ahem, cue bed frame hitting wall and associated noises of such laborious activity hahahahaha), poor window security (you can see out and everyone can see IN), privacy. For the price (beachfront practically in Pismo), can’t complain. The front desk rep didn’t recognize me one morning and then she said “oh, you dried your hair and have makeup on” and I was like shade noted, heffa, shade noted. LOL That said, the manager (nice gentleman) was very nice, and when I had an issue with my neighbors, they quickly rectified the situation which I appreciated. Just keep in mind the thin walls.

Nice quiet ocean view from your bed. Watched the sunset from our deck, couldn't ask for more. Short but sweet stay.Dog friendly. Our dogs were happy too. Definitely coming back. Short distance to shops and restaurants.

  • Nov 28, 2018 by Maria Evangelista

Well, i cannot comment on the actual stay we had booked for the week of Thanksgiving because the NIGHT BEFORE we were set to leave I received an email at 5:00pm saying there was a problem with our reservation. Mind you we booked and paid in full back in August for this room through Orbitz. When my husband called Orbitz they said that the hotel contacted them and said they overbooked the hotel and we had no place to stay the entire week. HUH? We called the hotel directly and were told that “they don’t keep inventory on their rooms” which must be lie, how does a hotel do buisness like that? The lady who we talked to at The Tides had nothing to offer except a King sized bed for our family of 4, which includes a 15yo and 11yo. Well that certainly wasn’t an option for us, and i am still in disbelief how un accommodating this hotel was. Oh! She ALSO said “well don’t worry we are giving you a full refund and won’t even charge you any fees.” Like we should be grateful. Our family has been vacationing in Pismo for 20+ years and never had a problem with any hotel rooms before. That’s what we get for trying out a new hotel. Luckily after 4hrs and 4 different people the helpful customer service rep at Orbitz set us up in a different hotel leaving a day later. It was farther away from the beach but we were desperate and made the best of our stay. I’ll never chance my vacation on this hotel again. I’ll stay where i know I’m a valued customer.

We have been coming to this place for years and this trip was the first time we stayed in #117 (birthday surprise)! Gorgeous, unobstructed views of the ocean right at the top of the cliffs. I've always appreciated the location and the lower price. It's not fancy but it's clean, the bed is comfy, the shower hot and room #117 was hard to leave! The staff is great and it's fun to watch the bunnies hopping around not to mention falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing right below us! The only thing I would love to see is the beach access steps fixed and re-opened (we used to be able to go from right there) but you can access the beach easily enough right next door. Thank you The Tides for another great trip!

  • Nov 26, 2018 by ayseak

alas, although less expensive than other hotels, it is very basic, very very noisy from highway noise, with no beach access due to the stairs being out, and no lighting for reading on the bed. staff was fine, but the motel is not.

  • Nov 22, 2018 by annespan

Just a little dated, bathrooms could use an upgrade. Clean, quaint though and appreciate dog friendly accommodations. Breakfast offering would be nice....simple fare. Did enjoy outdoor seating. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Nov 17, 2018 by Kylie H

We stayed at The Tides with our dogs and absolutely loved it. The staff is wonderful and helped with all of our needs. The location is beautiful. We stayed in a cottage with a kitchen and could make some of our own meals. It was super quiet (except the awesome sounds of the ocean) and the beds are super comfortable. We highly recommend this quaint little gem by the sea.

  • Nov 10, 2018 by AnnaC1189...

This motel has a beautiful view of the ocean and costs far less than the neighbouring accommodations. The lower cost is reflected in the overall quality of the motel, as expected but it was mostly clean (could be updated a bit in some parts), the service was reliable and the beds were very comfortable!

  • Nov 09, 2018 by Compass67...

We got off to a bad start. But, it was quickly fixed and it was a pretty nice stay after all. We stayed in Rm 117 which has a beautiful view of the ocean! I would like to make one suggestion. I’d remove the desk and put a small sofa in it’s place. There’s such a great view from that room, but nowhere in the room to relax and absorb the view. Your service crew was quick and efficient...Thank you

  • Nov 09, 2018 by DayTrip31...

The Tides is something of a throwback to less glitzy days, a comfortable, relaxed, welcoming vacation spot that we have looked forward to visiting year after year. Perched on a bluff overlooking the strand running from Port San Luis all the way to Point Conception you can't find a nicer location. It is unpretentious, and we pray it stays this way for years to come

  • Nov 05, 2018 by Doreen Isaacs

Very nice staff; helpful with info for newcomers. Rooms are dated but the views, even partial ocean from our room, was awesome. And their Cliffside sitting area was awesome. I will definitely go back.

  • Nov 05, 2018 by Culture54...

We LOVE the Tides! We upgraded to the Beach House and it was spectacular! The property is far enough away from town to be mellow, but close enough to walk in for a cinnamon roll, meal or shopping. The view is SPECTACULAR from the cliffs and the staff was kind and helpful. We will definitely return, again! The beds were awesome and the house was homey, not flashy, which we loved.

  • Nov 05, 2018 by paulgH767...

NO air conditioning it also said partial view of the ocean and there was none. It was a hot day we were there for my daughters band review and was looking forward to a nice cool room to come back to and just to find out no air conditioner. We opened the windows and there was no breeze from either window.

  • Nov 05, 2018 by Venture05...

We had a nice stay. Our family was in town for a band review and the distance from downtown was perfect. The young lady that checked us in was amazing and super friendly. We were hoping to upgrade to a cottage but there were no openings. We would like to come back and bring a larger group.

  • Nov 02, 2018 by Casi P.

My 7 girlfriends and I stay at the Beach House at the Tides every year. This place is perfect for our group. There are two bedrooms and three full bathrooms! A large kitchen with utensils, dining room, living room with a fire place and huge game room with a pool table and pull out.  There are several large windows with the most beautiful ocean view every where you look. There is also a fire pit out back with enough chairs for all of us to use while looking out onto the ocean. The staff is also great!  They are very helpful and nice. We will continue to come to this place every year for our annual trip. There are only a couple of things they could improve, like replacing the pull out couch in the game room, it is very old, uncomfortable and unstable and the shower in the King room bathroom is VERY small. But other than that, it's the most awesome affordable place to stay in Pismo. We will still be there next year!

  • Nov 02, 2018 by Nomad3648...

My reservation experience was my first hint of a perfect stay. Ashley made my reservation she was helpful, engaged, and friendly the perfect first contact for any business. Check in was also pleasant with Amanda. Our room was perfect we stepped in and didn't want to leave again. The hotel is older but it was clean and quiet. I do think the bathtub plumbing should be updated, the water was HOT and plenty, a good thing, however, the handles were very difficult to figure out which created the opportunity for a injury. Our only complaint would be having to speak to Trish at the front desk. I had 2 conversations with her and my sister had to return to finish the second because she was very negative (both times) and disinterested. I only mention this because I was so pleased with all of the other staff that I had contact with that it caught me completely off guard.

The king standard is a bit small but clean. Suggest a towel rack and or hooks to hang clothes or towels. Desk was blocking closet. Need microwave. Your grounds are beautiful and clean! Love that your per friendly! Hope your stairs get repaired for easier access to beach . Love the fire pits and the killer view!!

  • Oct 22, 2018 by michelens...

We really enjoyed our stay, it was peaceful and relaxing. The view from the front yard was gorgeous and we will definitely come back. The staff was courteous and attentive. My one complain would be that there was no direct beach access, but the views were beautiful and it made up for it.

  • Oct 22, 2018 by cleoyouar...

Very pleasant stay, our room may have to be the best room. We plan on coming back every October, and will stay in the same room. The mattress was wonderful, had the best three night sleep. The room was extremely clean. We loved the ocean view all around the room. The people are very nice and willing to help you if need be. Also great idea giving a gift basket. BJ & RM

We were in a small room, but it worked well for us. No complimentary breakfast but a refrigerator and a microwave and coffee were available in the room. Friendly staff, clean accommodations. If you are looking for resort accommodations, this may not be the place for you - no jacuzzi or pool, but if you just need the basics, this is a good choice.

  • Oct 21, 2018 by bashfulbu...

The stay overall was very nice. The staff at the office was excellent and very pleasant. Our room was comfortable and clean. Airflow could have been improved with upgraded windows and bathroom shower was small, but overall we will stay here again. One day we did not get our room cleaned as there was a staffing concern and she said she was getting to us next but it was already 4 and we needed to get ready for an event we were going to so we told her to forget it that day. The room was always cleaned very well we just could not wait that day I did not lower the rating as it was our choice.

  • Oct 20, 2018 by Escape551...

It’s amazing that this motel received a good rating on Trip Advisor, that’s one reason I booked here. First and last time staying here. Front desk tried to con me into $15 extra for early check in...really? WAAAY over priced! Motel 6 would be better and cheaper plus they have a pool.

  • Oct 19, 2018 by Betty S

The Hotel was clean. The Bathroom super small, needs updating. It’s okay for a one night stay but that’s it. No ironing board. Closet was blocked by side table couldn’t get luggage rack out of closet. No room in bathroom. Shower only and shower head up too high. Like I said for an overnight 1 night stay okay. Walls very very thin. You hear everything. I heard the guy coughing next door and lots of noise in motel room above, so we didn’t sleep. The people that work there are very nice and it was clean.

  • Oct 18, 2018 by Lisa S.

I'm not impressed. I payed $114 plus tax and fees and  The bathroom sink was clogged as soon as we used it. The bathroom itself is extremely outdated. They left a fan in the room, that was covered with chunks of dust. The pictures looked much better than what it is in person. We will be staying somewhere else next time.

  • Oct 15, 2018 by sheribabe...

Lovely stay! Clearly an older hotel but well maintained. Quaint with easy access with adequate parking and right on the cliffs of the beach. Though some upgrades might be useful, the charm and extra efforts to provide a comfortable stay are very obvious. Linens were very fresh and clean and the complimentary basket of goodies was appreciated. I wish I would have had more time to linger around one of the fire pits. I definitely will return.

  • Oct 10, 2018 by Caroline Sachs

Very impressed with the customer service here. On the day of my stay, I received a call saying that they were having an electrical issue at the property and that they made arrangements for us to stay at their sister property (Cottage Inn by the Sea), two properties away. My original reservation was for a partial ocean view at The Tides. When we checked into the Cottage Inn, we got a direct Ocean View on the first level with the back door leading out to the patio and rear of the property overlooking the cliffs, with breathtaking views, firepits and chairs. It couldn't have been any better than that. Thank you Tides (and Cottage Inn). We will definitely be back!!

  • Oct 10, 2018 by cindylouh...

My family and friends love this place so much because it is welcoming and comfortable. We simply feel that we can relax here. It’s very basic but has everything we need. The cabins are the best because we never have to leave for meals. We bring food and cook or nibble as we enjoy our short stay in Paradise. We can also bring our dog and go for walks. The employees are friendly, helpful but not intrusive. This is not a fancy spa hotel so if you’re looking for that kind of experience this isn’t the place for you.

  • Oct 08, 2018 by Tian T.

Bar none, this is the worst condition place I ever lived in the States.  No AC unit. (We got a floor stand fan though, that gets some credit.) Oldest wall heater I ever seen, hope it works.  Cable TV slugged all night doesn't matter which channel.  1.5 sq ft shower (smallest ever I seen in my life in the West Coast.  I travel about 15-20 times a year)  I don't think it is their fault having no wall power plug available for EASY access because I finally found 2 close to the floor hiden below the mattress.  And I have to mention, all these might still be worth it for a partial oceanview for some people.  Did I mention they won't have anyone available in the lobby after 11PM, you have to call them.  I apologize for the 1 star review, because thats the lowest Yelp allowed.  Every year mostly use SeaCrest, should have not try something new.

  • Sep 26, 2018 by Virgoazul...

I just stayed this past weekend at this hotel and I was worried at first due to some of the negative reviews I had read after booking through Hotels.com. I even called before arriving and spoke with the Manager (Greg), and he assured me that I would enjoy my stay once there. Sooooooo here we go... We were there to celebrate both of our birthdays and we spoke with Trish and Ashley. These young ladies were very accommodating and took very good care of us. They made sure that we had a more than pleasant stay at their hotel. They upgraded us to a cottage near the beach, which was so amazing of them! There were only 3 units in that section. No one next to us or above us. We had a view to the ocean and the room was super cute. We were very happy with everything! They even gave us a welcome basket with goodies. Who doesn't love that! Ashley, was very helpful. We needed fresh towels and trash taken out, as the cleaning crew didn't finish our room, or so it seamed they missed a few things. But as soon as I told Ashley, she jumped right on it. Again, these ladies took excellent care of us. We appreciated the care and hospitality they provided. The room we stayed in was small but perfect! It had a full bathroom with tub. It also, came with a little microwave and mini fridge. The weather was nice and cool so we didn't even end up using the fan they provide in the room. The sea breeze was enough to keep us cool during the day and the heater warmed us up plenty at night. There's no beach access but it wasn't a big deal as we just walked to the pier and were there in minutes. But they have a few fire pits and chairs around the hotel. It was nice being on the little bridge they have. You can watch the sunset from there or from the end of the property. Pull up a chair, watch the waves come in and enjoy the view. I loved it. This place is perfect for a romantic getaway or any celebration or just because. I will definitely come back and recommend to my friends and family. This was a birthday we'll never forget! Thank you to Trish and Ashley for taking great care of us!

I’ve stayed here before and have always been impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the amazing views/location. This trip was less satisfactory due to the dinginess of the cottage, very poor water pressure, problems with the tv service, and a rodent problem evidenced by mouse droppings in the kitchen area.

This place is straight out of an 80's horror film. Pros: services was extremely friendly. From reservation to check out the hotel staff always exceeded my expectations. There was a pet friendly vacancy for Fourth of July week (all of the other places were sold out) the pillows were luxurious! Succulents everywhere! Cons: pretty much everything else. The floors are literally paper thin. The first night we couldn't sleep until 3 am because it was the 4th and the upstairs neighbors were up late. They were not being loud and obnoxious, just walking. Every step felt like it was coming through the floor. Second night lucky for us the new upstairs neighbors went to bed early. Unlucky for us they were early risers. Packing their bags wheeling them around getting ready, every step violated my soul. There is no a/c. We did not even have a fan. We asked for one upon check in and we were told they had all been given out. Second day after everyone checked out we asked again and were told we should already have one but since we didn't they had to go buy a new one. The coast breeze is nice but there is no cross breeze since the rear windows open to a brick building next door. Speaking of next door there is a restaurant whose rear employee entrance is by our room and they would often be taking their breaks and talking in the narrow alleyway. We did not have a screen on the window next to one of the beds but we err forced to keep it open to pray for a breeze. The bathroom is probably the worst I've seen in any hotel. Complete with mildew, cobwebs, tight dark places, trickles of water, intermediate temperatures mid shower. It was horrible. The sink did not even have hot water. The toilet ran for extended periods after every flush due to malfunctioning innards. Words cannot express  how bad the bathroom really was.   The photos depicted direct access to the beach but the access was closed. The grounds have been neglected and pales in comparison to the neighboring hotels. This hotel cost us around $250 a night but the value is more around that of a $50 no-tell-motel.

The Tides staff are extremely nice and easy to work with. The location has great views and with windows open you can hear the ocean. Althought the cottages are old, they are very roomy. Beds were comfy as was the living room furniture. Appreciated that the two bedrooms and living room all had new flatscreen TVs with plenty of channels to choose from. While it's to be expected that kitchenettes don't have all amenities, adding some basics would help (example: full set of newer knives, serving/cooking utensils, 2-3 more pans, larger coffee pot/larger Kuerig) The sitting area outside was great! Perhaps consider fencing the backyard a bit so that people could sit in the backyard without seeing the property debris/storage.

Worse experience EVER! How is this place even open? Total scam! No ocean front view unless you are at the beach house but still no beach access so be WARNED. Pics were great online but not what you get.   I paid for an ocean front cottage and there was NO ocean view after repeatedly calling to make sure that is what I would receive. I'm confused when directed o a dingy cottage with NO view. Though in everyway I am paying for oceanfront room. met with an "oh well" attitude from manager.      It was also over a 6hr drive so it's not like we can easily return home. I call all the surrounding hotels: seacrest to motel six and all booked or can not accommodate three people. We start unpacking and try to make best out of horrible situation and spend most of the time out of cottage and in the parking lot since apparently this is the only way I get my "ocean view". Yes...literally hang out in a parking lot like a bunch of freakin alley cats. We are eventually forced back into the cottage in order to start dinner.        The couch is old dingy and has bugs crawling all over it. I know cause they were crawling on me while I sat, plus stain filled something that could easily be thoroughly cleaned with basic solution but the room looks like no one has ever bothered cleaning it. My mom had to sleep on this sofa bed and it was obvious they didn't care to change the sheets, not to mention the bugs again. Sleeping on this couch actually caused her to get rashes do to bugs and the fact they didn't change the sofa bedding for god knows how long and was most likely festering with all sorts of potential things.      The bathroom has bubbly, leaking and moldy with hair hanging down and there are bugs. When we go to make dinner the stove doesn't work! We realize there is no line phone and we can't call to ask for anything. My mom lights the pilot with some matches we brought. I am nervous every time because it's dangerous playing around with gas and fire and this place is falling apart. I call on my cellphone but front desk doesn't answer, my mother even goes up but no one is there.             We continue on and try to make the best out of dinner and try to find something on tv because there is no channel guide. I want to go to bed after a long over 6hr drive and the day's horrible disappointments. I turn over the comforter and....hair....all over...black hair both head hair and pubic! I should mention here that I have fushia hair and that I'm naturally a dirty blond...disgusting...Office is closed and we couldn't find book with housekeeping and even when we do eventually find it it says press 0 on the land line that we were never provided with. Also the bedside lamp doesn't work. My mom has to borrow the living room light bulb to replace my bedside one so I can do my evening reading. I imagine they probably got rid of phone cause they are riddled with complaints from all the guest they are deceiving. I am forced to sleep on this bed thank god I brought my own blanket which I am forced to lay over the disgusting filthy bed.           Next day...my official birthday I wake up itchy and now I'm afraid I might have lice or some other creepy crawly from staying in this bed. My grandma ends up cleaning up shower so she could feel comfortable washing up, we found out at that time we don't have hot water in sinks and shower. I shower but it's obvious that I've been bitten by something either couch or bed who knows, have pics of swelling. House maid knocks she's very young probably a 17 year working summer job and we tell her things that need to be done. We are getting ready to head out to try to go to beach again, so she says they'll get the things we requested and come back in 15 min. Ok cool, hopefully by time we come back we can salvage something from this trip. We are gone about 6hrs from cottage including the time wasted trying to get to city town beach access thing. We expect to return to a clean cottage...NOPE! Beds are still unchanged and it's obvious no one has stepped inside the cottage since we left.      I am now officially beyond pissed off! He calls the house keeping and tells them to get there asap. At this point I'm checking to see how long it'll take of they come at all but then this 17 year old appears and quickly changes sheets in both rooms and brings blankets, sheets and towels. We make dinner and the sink clogs, no drainage whatsoever now. Now we finally reach check out we are obviously in a hurry to get the hell out of there now. My mom and grandma do light cleaning because obviously it has to be done and we don't like mess. I am pretty sure they did a better job than their child labor staff...My mom plunges sink which still hasn't drained and finds straws in the blockage...not from us. Either way...you're welcome, we fixed your sink for you guys and cleaned the freakin place!

This was the first time we stayed at The Tides Oceanview Inn & Cottages. Our room had a view ocean. The room was very clean and the staff super friendly. The next time I stay in Pismo Beach I will stay here and get the cottage. There’s a little road noise from Highway 1.

  • Sep 15, 2018 by Navigator...

We enjoyed our stay very much and are already interested in renting the beach house next time within the next few months. The only complaint with cottage 120 is low water pressure in bathroom sink and shower.

  • Sep 12, 2018 by Anne G

We have stayed at this property for several years and love it, especially the private cottages. The weather in Pismo is great - natural air conditioning - and this place has a fire pit and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the ocean.

  • Sep 09, 2018 by Matt Tucker

The tides is cheap and the staff is nice. The accommodations are very VERY old. I stayed in a cottage and while nice, the amenities and housing was too old to feel very comfortable. The AC didn't work and the fridge was barely able to cool anything. I would come back but with low expectations. If you stay here, rent the ocean view cabin.

We were very disappointed in the rooms. We had two rooms. The Cottage had dusty doors, and window sills. Missing screen, torn screen. A dirty kitchen sink. Mold in bathroom on wall and it looks as though the ceiling was painted to cover up mold issues as dark spots can be seen. The bedroom doors do not close easily and when it's the middle of the night and you want to visit to bathroom the whole house can hear you open your door as it's sticks terribly. We were comped $100 for the over $300 a night room for two nights at check out. My sons' room 107 had water sitting on carpet in a puddle by beds. He said it was so noisy he didn't sleep much. The box fans in both our rooms were rusted on top. The day he had to check out we were deep sea fishing, so my daughter called in the check out without knowing his issues. Later that day I went to the office, stood there, rang the bell, saw a pink cell phone on the desk, yelled out...no one came. Three hotel rooms were opened with housekeeping carts close by, I walked into one cottage and called out. No one answered. Looked into the other rooms, no one could be found. My son had to leave to head back home so when I checked out I addressed his issues. We were told the hotel staff could not compensate him since he did not address the issues and had checked out. We were told he would hear from someone at corporate level in 3 - 5 days. That was 9 days ago. My son needs to be comped for his room.  He's words were this was more like a motel 6 room! The hotel management lied and said we had to wait for corporate to contact is when in fact the on site manager is able to handle refunds.

Location is great and close to beach and downtown , Rooms are good with nice layout and plan , the downside is bathroom which is very small and even the shower area is congested. Good for a short stay .Overall it was a nice short stay

We loved staying at The Tides! Great location with nearby stairs for beach access and a lovely walk into town for dinner or breakfast. We spent each morning whale watching from the property! It was so wonderful to hear the ocean as we fell asleep. Rooms are tiny but clean. For $199 a night we did expect toiletries in the bathroom and clean towels to replace used ones, but that did not happen for us.

  • Sep 01, 2018 by Mari D.

My least favorite spot I've ever stayed in. Couldn't complain at the time, someone else booked this. I'll never stay here again. Yes, there is a partial view of the ocean and it depends which room you get we were in 107 I believe. Don't believe the other reviews with 5 stars there is just no way! Seems like one of the workers there also leave and upload pics on this yelp --- just FYI. We had mold, I was walking on wet carpet, three people in one room and only two towels were there. We complained and nothing done when they said they would reach out to us and went as far as saying it would need to go to corporate if we had issues during our stay because the room was already paid for and we had already left. This goes to show you the customer service just is lacking and they didn't care since you already paid!  It's not worth the money to book here for a family who wants a good weekend getaway! Its not cheap to go out of town as it is. It's not a 24-hour front desk so no customer service after hours, they referred you to call next door to the other hotels if you had an emergent need so that not safe or good if you have kids and may have some special requests or needs after hours. Not convenient for the customers. When I noticed the wet floor, it was a weekend and after hours. Therefore, I had no one to call to give them heads up of a possible pipe leakage. Small bathroom, shower was old, wasn't certain if it would even have hot water... so tiny and dark that a tall guy probably wouldn't fit in the shower stall! luckily I am 5,1! Didn't sleep at all-maybe 1 hr so I was very tired the next morning before the fishing trip which was all day! Why? The walls were paper thin. All the noises, foot steps of my neighbors kept us up. Bathroom walls also very thin so it's not very private. The temperature was unstable it was hot and we were offered a floor box fan on the floor which was not useful when in bed, it was cooling the base of the bed instead and not the people laying in bed! opening the window will lead to cooling of the room yes but would increase the noise. They had a working fridge though! Yay. No ceiling fan. The other option was open the window but it was noisy outside, the window was old and weighted a ton! Gave up and just tried to get comfy. Restless night, wet floors, not enough towel, small bathroom, ocean nearby but no access to the water, and no ocean view from where we were so not a true ocean view and we were on the first floor our windows looked over to the other peoples bathroom windows not to the ocean and our fee was still near 300$ parking wasn't horrible though, they weren't booked. They had a small k cup in the room it works! Well, I don't recommend this place if you're gonna pay up to 300$ a night. Try to find one that is at least clean, dry, and decent. We left at 4 am to fish that's why when we checked out, we couldn't tell the front desk about our issues they were closed when we found the wet floors and they were closed when we left at 4 am. No snacks there like other yelp pictures suggested. Maybe only certain rooms. Amenities were the toiletries , fridge, coffee maker, and floor box fan that was old and dirty.

We arrived on Friday to find NO wash clothes in the room. Went to the front desk thinking it was just an over site. I was given one and told wouldn't have any more till tomorrow. One wash cloth for two people to wash face and bottom! Shower head dripped so the bath mat they folded and laid on the edge of the shower was dripping wet.T.V. did not work. Called front desk. She told me how to reset nothing worked. Went to front desk next morning to let them know of really needing wash clothes and T.V. fixed. Returned later afternoon had wash clothes but T.V. still not working. Went back to the front desk and they said there was no one there to fix it everyone had gone home. And to top it off the people above us were very noisy. We were very disappointed in our stay

We hired a standard room with our three teenagers so it was a pretty tight squeeze. After two weeks on our tour of California it was our 9th motel and sadly have to say the poorest quality of the lot. Bathroom did not really come up to scratch for the wife and daughter but just passable. 15 walk into the main hub of the town so we drove. Kinda forgettable really but functional, a little over priced in companion to other on the West coast.

  • Aug 20, 2018 by Samantha Reyes

Rooms are basic with no air conditioner but the space is good and functional. The staff is average. No one smiles back when you smile at them. But the view is gorgeous.

Beautiful location. Loved the fire pits. Beds comfortable. Furnishings and place could be updated. Very old and stained furniture in kitchen and lounge. But overall it was a great stay as location and view makes up for it. Good value for money

The pictures they show you are only for a small number of rooms and 1 cottage. We have stayed in the cottages for many years. Mainly because it jas been a family tradition for a long time. Everytime we stay it is more and more disappointing. PLUS THERE IS NO BEACH ACCESS. Everytime we come they say there are working on that. I doubts it truly takes that long. I think the city deemed the stairs unsafe and they dont want to pay to have them fixed. First, cleanliness is not a priority like they claim. Our cottage had dust all over, there was even a spider web in the bathroom shower. The floors really needed to be detailed and the carpets are filthy. Dont walk barefoot on the carpwt if you dont want the bottom of your feet to look like you walked on asphalt. There was mold in the tub shower combo. There was even mold on the drain stopper ( GROSS). Second was the overall condition of the cottage. First off the bathroom sink had no water pressure. It is absolutely impossible to use the sink even to brush your teeth. The shower is the exact same. It was very difficult to wash the soap out of your hair. I can only imagine how difficult it would be for a woman with long hair. The furniture is very worn and dated. The couch was very uncomfortable and smelled like it has be wet and never dried. Another annoyance is the sound level. When you are on vacation you expect to relax. This specific time we stayed in cottage 120 and were awoken to load noices outside our window. I look out and found out they use that garage for all their cleaning supplies. The maids literally use that for their storage. Speaking on the windows. They are very old. They dont stay open. You have to prop them open with a piece of wood. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AT ANOTHER HOTEL. EVEN IF THE ROOMS ARE CHEAPER (COTTAGES ARE NOT CHEAP) LIKE OTHER REVIEWERS SAY IT ISNT WORTH IT.

We loved the view and the property was clean. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, but not in a fake way. Trish helped us on the morning we checked out, after we experienced a theft of a wagon and children's beach toys we had left outside. (we don't believe the Tides had any role in the theft). We were disappointed the beach access was next door as the one on the property is closed. We'd stay here again.

  • Aug 15, 2018 by athoma340...

The view was beautiful, Ashley the night desk associate was very helpful, the rooms was small, the shower has no room to move, water pressure was horrible, stairs to beach closed for repairs had to go through the motel next door or down the street to go to the beach

Fun quick trip to the coast to beat the heat. Location was excellent. Room was clean but smaller than anticipated. Bathroom needs a vanity for placement of personal hygiene and hair products. Overall stay excellent.

  • Aug 09, 2018

when you book this hotel, they show you this beautiful ocean view out of your room. i had the view & smell of garbage dumpster. the hot water was not working in the bathroom sink and i reported it but nothing was done. they charge me $199/ night and any walk-in could get $150/night. access to the beach was all blocked off and you had to drive 2 mile to get on the beach.

I just got back from my stay at the Ocean's Tide Inn and was very disappointed in my accommodations. I rented 2 cottages for my family and was embarrassed by the un cleanliness of the cottages upon our arrival. I have never had to clean a rental when I walked through the door. Upon entering, the cottages were musty, smelled of urine with visible stains and dust. This could be a beautiful destination if the owners ensured the upkeep of facilities. This is one place I will never stay again. Aside from accommodations our family was able to have a wonderful trip.

The Tides was a great find! It's old, but clean. The staff Amanda, Trish, and Greg were wonderful. It's pet-friendly. We had a two queens room and there was sufficient space. The bathroom is quite tiny, but has everything you need. We poked our heads into one of the cottages and it was pretty nice. Perfect if you want to spend a couple of days. And it's much quieter the closer you get to the ocean and further away from the freeway. We'll be going back next month! The only downside is that it can be a little noisy. The walls and ceiling are not soundproof.

  • Jul 31, 2018 by Jessica Truitt

Was in a pinch and needed a room. They were nice enough to get us in and staff was very friendly. However room was not as clean as I would like and the walls are paper thin so we can hear everything from neighbors. Also we were near soda/ice machine and if Windows were open we would get a room full of cigarette smoke. They offered us a blow up mattress for the kids and must say it blew up much bigger than expected, but kids woke up in a half deflated bed. Would like to try one of the suites if I ever go back, they seemed like a nice place to stay. But in the front Building it is very busy and noisy.

  • Jul 31, 2018

I was very disappointed with the condition of the property. We stayed at one of the 2 bedroom cottage, the place smelled musty and dirty. We have to open all windows and the doors back and front to be able to bear the smell and to dissepate. The place could be maintained in such a way that guest will enjoy. The costumer service at the lobby was great and Amanda did a great job explaining to another customer unhappy and disappointed guest.

My stay was excellent very good customer service. There was only one thing that I had a problem with was the key card would not work sometimes. Other than that the stay was excellent. Pet friendly! Great view of the ocean, room 118 has an excellent view of the ocean.

My family stayed in the Beach House on the property of the Tides. The location and view were phenomenal! The size of the house was perfect for our family of 7. The beds were very comfortable. Unfortunately, my overall rating is only average because of the poor cleanliness and the clearly understaffed housekeeping department. The house is old, but that is not a reason for it to not be kept clean. We stayed from Monday - Saturday. The housekeeping staff arrived to clean each day no earlier than 3:30-4pm. So the rooms were only actually cleaned twice during our week long stay (Wed & Thurs) due to the timing of their arrival (baby napping, getting ready for dinner,etc.).The other days they asked if we wanted service or if we would just like more towels. The king bedroom and bathroom were the biggest problems. The bedroom smells very musty and even with spraying the carpets upon arrival the smell never went away. I went and bought a can of air freshener and a solid air freshener to keep in the room, but that only helped minimally. The sink in the bathroom was not draining properly and after bringing it to the attention of the front desk, it was not finally fixed until the end of the week. If the housekeeping staff had cleaned the sink they, too, would have noticed that it was not draining properly. The first day that they actually came in and cleaned while we were out, they did not clean the sink. I later asked the staff if that was typical that they don't clean sinks and the response I received was that

Gaps in the door threshold large enough for critters to pass through.  The shower head could not adjust to hit you any where other than your head when standing on your tippy toes.  Faucet at sink in bathroom would put more water on your clothes than on your hands creaky floors.  Beds were not bad and location gives it two stars.

I would like to thanks Ashley for the wonderful welcome she gives us , I have to say that with the fantastic view and the cleanliness is the only thing is worth the price. The room (deco , painting and utilities , water pressure ecc...) are really tired and also the electricity access for plugging anything is extremely uncomfortable and also there is NO BEACH ACCESS?????????.... we had to go and come back from another hotel. I spoke with the manager over the phone and I really didn’t feel that extra mile someone is willing to go for find different solutions. I am sorry but overall not worth the HUGE price we paid for it. I also like to thanks the lady who helped me with the checkout in the morning very attentive ( sorry I don’t remember her name ) . Kind regards

Definitely our new place to stay in Pismo. We had the ocean view room with a deck. Beds are very comfortable and cozy. Older place, but clean and all amenities that we needed. Location was perfect with restaurants nearby.

  • Jul 21, 2018 by Dan M.

This hotel is not as bad as others mentioned. Yes its old and in need of repair. My room (108) was nothing like on their website. If they did some serious updates it would have been worth the $200 per night I paid. Right now I would say it would be a $60 a night hotel anywhere else but here. My room had zero view, okay a view of the parking lot, broken soda machine and linen closet. The bed was super comfy though and the staff are really friendly which helps with the price. I would stay here again but maybe on the offseason at half the cost.

Really not pleased with room and and lack of features in it, no.place for setting amenities in bathroom, toilet took forever, only one little window to open, bathroom window had no screen and was wide open. Carpet felt nasty, no phone in room, disappointed really, not what I expected. Over priced, no good nearby grass unless your in front of someones room, for your pet, foxtails was disappointing too.

Our family had a great stay. The showers are really small but other them that it was comfortable and quite and walking distance to the beach. We loved how our dogs were very welcomed and treated well. We would for sure stay again. The staff at the time of our stay were very helpful and nice.

  • Jul 17, 2018 by Alexis Rogers

Overall the location was perfect probably the best thing about the hotel. The room smelled funny like the carpet had been wet for some time and not cleaned or dried properly. The window blinds were broken. So even if we wanted to have a really dark room we couldn't. The staff were all friendly. Unfortunately we would have preferred to hang a do not disturb sign up for the duration of our trip but there was not one provided in the room. Other than that pillows were nice bed was too soft for me but comfy to relax in. There was a coffee maker iron and fridge no microwave. Recommend maybe checking out the cottages on site or room 210 since they have exclusive use of the deck which has an awesome view. (Not the room I stayed in just near to mine)

Let me start with he positive: location is exactly where you wanna be. Walking distance to beach and downtown area (go to the cracked crab). There's a fridge and coffee Keurig. The shower had great water pressure. All the staff was friendly. The negatives... The room smelled like the carpet had been wet and not cleaned or dried out properly. The window blinds had several blinds broken. The bed was really sunken in the middle. Some of the windows locks were broken so that didn't make us feel super secure. And there was no do not disturb sign in the room.

Hotel was in a good location. It was close to the freeway, food places and also the beach. The rooms were decent but the bathroom can use an update and maybe AC. The staff was friendly and kind. I wish there was access at the hotel to the beach, but that walk was not too bad

  • Jul 13, 2018 by beautysna...

We had great service with all at the desk. Room worked well for our family. The only thing is the showers are very small but we made it work. It was relaxing to sit outside. Would stay again. And loved how they took care of our pets.

  • Jul 13, 2018 by Stevieray...

This hotel is in a great location. The rooms are seriously outdate tho; very few electrical outlets and those were being used by the clock, fridge, tv, coffee maker. There is no storage in the bathroom for your toiletries just the top of the toilet. One of the windows and the blinds were missing. They need to do some updating; I would not stay there again.

  • Jul 12, 2018 by Vivien V.

It was the last hotel we booked in our road trip... 5 days.. before to hit the road to San Diego... I did not research much and was tired but decided to spend $200 close to the beach for a nice spot... It was nothing special and the stuff was not very organized... just ok... very loud freeway no view on the ocean... little bitter since all the low budget hotel we booked before were actually better to sleep. They charged me an extra $20 for complimentary tax not mention previously... I actually just checked Yelp... I should have done it before.

  • Jul 11, 2018 by jesmcco

Perfect little beach cottage, all the necessities were included. Though there is no pool...the beach is just a short stroll away. (2 block walk...maybe 1/4 mile or less) Loved our stay and the girls at the front were awesome!

  • Jul 09, 2018 by mommy4lif...

Need to designate a smoking area. Numerous people from other rooms would stand outside and walk near our room smoking constantly. Since there's no AC we left the windows open to get a cool breeze but always had to smell cigarettes.

  • Jul 09, 2018 by Amit O.

This hotel is situated in a great location, right next to Pismo beach. The rooms have a partial ocean view and they are pretty clean. They don't have A/C's in the rooms though. You don't need A/C when you can get a nice ocean breeze, as this is right in front of the ocean. The parking is right across the hotel and is availablein plenty.

  • Jul 09, 2018 by Brittany G.

The location is perfect but hotel is horrible! No air conditioning, no pool, no amenities really whatsoever, the bathrooms are so tiny, old and gross you barely want to shower. Toilets don't flush all the way... gross! Walls are so paper thin you can basically here your neighbors passing gas. We left for 1 hour to grab a bagel and some coffee when we got a call about our dog barking and disturbing other ppl which is weird because this is a pet friendly hotel so why can't we leave our dog here while we're out for a minute?? Not all restaurants are dog friendly! There's no beach access behind the hotel when there totally should be it's all blocked off with a gate for no reason.

  • Jul 09, 2018 by oochiewal...

We loved the view and the front desk staff was beyond helpful! They got us in 1 hour earlier than check-in and that was very much appreciated! However, it looked as if the sheets had not been changed and things, such as lights, did not work and doors & windows were hard to open. Even with that though, the view was beyond gorgeous and waking up to the sound of the ocean was a dream! I would still recommend this place as long as u allow enough time for proper cleaning & maintenance!

We've stayed here a handful of time but this will be the last. Apart from the stuffy, hot room and lack of a working fan. It was dirty and there were bugs everywhere. I am so disappointed in this stay. It was always a nice one but it has been let go. How is this a Pacifica hotel.

  • Jul 09, 2018 by Jen L

Lovely location and cool classic beach hotel. Unfortunately the blistering hot room made it almost impossible to sleep. The thoughtfully provided fan provided no relief. The blinds were very dusty, opening the bathroom window for much needed ventilation reveled discarded old Q-tips and dirt. Window over bed had to be propped open with a hanger, and took effort to even open, had no screen. Placing a second mirror in the main room would be extremely helpful for multiple people getting ready. Staff was very helpful and friendly. It would have been nice to know there was NO beach access from the hotel as the pictures show it on the water.

This place is straight out of an 80’s horror film. The first night we couldn’t sleep until 3 am because it was the 4th and the upstairs neighbors were up late. Second day after everyone checked out we asked again and were told we should already have one but since we didn’t they had to go buy a new one. The bathroom is probably the worst I’ve seen in any hotel.

First time in Pismo Beach, stayed at The Tides. We opted for this hotel for the location (beach views) and the value and we were pleased with the service and the room. It was very clean and spacious. Just a short half mile walk from the downtown/pier restaurants and shops. The only downside that it's an old building; there's not a lot to muffle the noise People coming and going, you hear everything, that and the proximity to the 101 makes it a little loud, but you'd expect a little of that anyhow if you've ever stayed anywhere near the main highway. Bed was comfortable, shower European sized. Overall we were happy with our stay and would recommend it over the more congested downtown/pier area.

  • Jul 06, 2018 by deborahfa...

The views were beautiful from this location. Walking distance to the pier. There was a mix up with our rooms but the staff was very friendly Family and pet oriented. Many guests made use of the fire pit. Getting to the beach was a little difficult from this location but we liked the fact it was less crowded

  • Jul 06, 2018 by Sara L

Very nice, well kept, spacious room & cute older Inn, great service, easy check in & out, grounds very well maintained. We'll try to come back to stay in the beach house, looks very comfortable. Thanks

  • Jul 03, 2018 by Leanna B

I liked the location of this property. It was easy walk to Pismo beach but the area itself is quiet. Next time I will spring for a cottage. My room was noisy with the restaurant next door and the walls were thin.

  • Jul 03, 2018 by teacherde...

I was a bit disappointed with this stay. Disappointed that there was no beach access when the add states there is. The rooms are extremely typical motel basic- I am used to a bit more luxury. Extremely plain. Tried to call after hours help to quiet down fighting couple and no answer. Would never recommend.

My Husband and I really enjoyed our stay at your Facility. The location was Great and the Room was just right .The Bathroom was a little small but we made it work .Our room did have a very strong bleach smell at first but we left the Door and Windows open for a little while and smell went away.. Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful view from the second floor and down by the cottages. Convenient location. Comfortable beds. Anemic water pressure. You can hear every footstep, we started downstairs, but could even hear them upstairs as they moved us upstairs due to leaking shower. There is only stairs, which was difficult with heavy luggage.

  • Jun 28, 2018 by jburks30

Cottage was cute little old but cottage atmosphere is nice, price was right for a family of 6. Fire pit is inviting, and everyone seemed super friendly, beach access is 2 blocks not to bad. Close to good food and downtown Pismo,

The king suites are definitely worth splurging on! The room we had was beautiful and offered an amazing, private view of the ocean. Perfect for sitting outside with a glass of wine at night and listening to the waves roll in.

Our stay was based on a recommendation and loved the property in general. Recent plumbing work created a less than desirable water condition in our first unit. Water was brown and source was unknown. Moved to unit 2 and even tho the water ran clear before we moved it soon had the same issue with unusable shower and sink. Thanks to an amazing front desk representative, Amanda, we were moved to a sister property and honored the same rate at the Tides. Amanda made a rather rattled stay into a proper get away for us. She deserves a great deal of our gratitude and with her customer service expertise should be working a the Ritz or similar 4 star property. Thanks Amanda for making things right.

  • Jun 17, 2018 by Mandy R

A quick visit and despite the room being older, it was clean and fine . Staff were helpful, my friend loved the coffee maker , and it was very close to the beach. It was less frenetic than right in the town and we enjoyed the friendly service. The welcome basket of goodies was appreciated.

  • Jun 13, 2018 by Bargainhu...

We chose the Tides because it was the last of a breed. Long ago Pismo Beach had places to stay with "elbow room". Today, elbow room is just at the Tides. Yes, the place is pretty old and I think the cottages might be even older than the motel. It was clean, and much to our delight, we found flatware, dishes, and huge refrigerator in our cottage . The bed was comfortable as was the other furniture and we had plenty of room. Our cottage 113 had both a front and back door and a yard at both. It was tailor made for us and our two dogs. The wifi was superior and the parking free. I telephoned the property to make our reservation because I had picked up a map on an earlier trip north and knew from it where we wanted to stay. It was possible to book the room requested which is also unusual nowadays. However, in doing this, there was some confusion as to a rate change which occurred during our stay. The change was noted on my sign in papers, but was in an iddy biddy font, and I never saw it. Had I booked on line, I'm certain there would have been no confusion at all, but, I wouldn't have been assured of getting the room we requested. I paid a price greater than anticipated. But, it was worth it for us. I'm certain someday the Tides property will become a huge fancy behemoth, and I for one will miss it just as it is today.

    1) Floors creak.
    2) Walls allow noise. Got to listen to our neighbors TV talk show next door at 10pm. Room above was having a party till about 12am till security came.
    3) Hotel Security slow to respond. Lack of control on the property
    4) Front desk closes and no staff on site after 11pm.
    5) Beach access from the property is not allowed. I was told the path was "condemned". Must walk 2 blocks down to get to beach.
    6) Shower was small. Small mildew build up.
    7) Possible remodel left unsealed walls under sink
    8) Weather was great
    9) Close to Pismo's main strip
    10) Like the no parking or daily resort fee
    11) Online pictures of the rooms look nice

Simply put, you get what you pay for. I will not stay here again.

  • Jun 08, 2018 by Big J.

I am here now and really not impressed. The rooms are outdated. There is really nowhere to plug in electronics because either the outlets are used by something i the room, or hidden behind furniture. Speaking of furniture because the building is so old when the people upstairs walk around it sounds like actual furniture is being moved around. I can't wait to hear that in the morning. The universal remote for the tv only changes the channels, yet won't turn the tv off or on, or adjust the volume. The bathroom is small, the shower is even smaller. I guess I have said enough.

We decided to head to pismo on Memorial Day! Busy week for pismo especially hotels. The tides was a good price and it was in the location we originally always stay when going to pismo. Upon arrival I was there way before check in. I walked in the office and front desk got us in to an amazing room with an amazing view!! The room was perfect for us even got a extra air mattress for the kids. The ladies in office were amazing great customer service. The rooms are a bit stuffy especially on a hot pismo day. To us that wasn't a problem though we left our windows open and once we came back left door open so the breeze was able to come in. By 7pm we appreciated the warmth of our room. We enjoyed the seats around the hotel while drinking hot cocoa. Will come back again I love this place!

  • May 27, 2018 by Nermana S.

This is really bad hotel. Nothing even close to the bedroom pictures here. I picked this hotel for Memorial Day weekend and paid almost $300 for one night. When we checked in the room is really small and disgusting. The bathroom so small you can barley move. Even with partial view room you can't see ocean from the room at all. This is in the same category as maybe Motel 6 or even worse. By the way Motel 6 night tonight $130 and this one $300. Too late to cancel and get the money back but we may just leave anyway. One more thing, no hair dryer. They are in the office if you need one you have to get outside and get it yourself.

My friend and I just had a wonderful vacation in Pismo. We love this hotel and all its charm. The room was very clean and beautifully decorated with simple and comfortable furnishings. We enjoyed being able to sit outside each day with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and watch the beachcombers and bunnies. It is great how they provide comfy chairs and fire pits for guests to relax at. The grounds are beautifully maintained and we loved seeing guests walking their dogs and enjoying the property. The rooms are not modern, but we lacked nothing, and the housekeeping staff does a very nice job keeping it very clean. They have quality bedding that is very comfortable. We both were very impressed and have made plans to return with our families and rent the cottages. Location is great. Views are beautiful. Price is great. We’d like to extend a thank you to the whole friendly, professional staff(especially Trish) who went out of their way to make our trip outstanding. Kind Regards, Adena

Pros: Bed was comfortable, right near the beach, and it was right next door to a great restaurant. Cons: No beach access, and the walls are paper thin. You can hear every noise from every direction.

  • May 19, 2018 by TravelShi...

This is a barely adequate place for a budget stay, it definitely has some problems. It is a very old facility, so it has the usual problems-the rooms and bathrooms are very small, there are a dearth of outlets, the place has a propensity for blown fuses if too many things are used at once, that kind of thing. There are no microwaves (unless you stay in one of the actual cottages). This was not a happy experience. Minus 1 point for the maintenance man who walked unannounced and uninvited into my room. He did a brief knock, but before I could even walk across the very small room he just used his key and walked in. Unacceptable. Minus 1 point for the plumbing issues. In my room, the shower doesn't drain while the shower is running, so you are standing in ankle deep water while you shower. The The cold water tap on the sink drips, and when the maintenance man ( the one who just walked in) looked at he said "oh yes, just do this" and wiggled it until apparently he found it's sweet spot. I guess he just does that everyday. Another guest was reporting the sink his room wouldn't drain. Minus 1point for no hairdryer. And it's not so much that they don't have one in the room, but more so because when it was asked about, the answer was "we have them in the back here and can rent you one"!!! Having to go to the lobby and wait for the clerk to be free to microwave water for tea in the morning was frustrating. Not having a hair dryer, and being told after the fact that I could have rented(!) one was frustrating. Standing in water while showering was frustrating. Having the sink drip was frustrating. Having the maintenance guy just walk in was flat out unacceptable. Minus 1 point because the overall experience of staying at the Tides left me annoyed and frustrated and concerned about people just walking in my room, and with wet hair to boot. So it would be absolutely out of the question for me to stay here for any more than one night, and to come back for even one night would only be if there was no place else available. There is no way I would ever stay here for a multiple night trip. There are too many other places to stay that manage to leave me feeling relaxed, not frustrated.

Disappointing and will not return. It is in the perfect location, right next to the cottage and the cliffs. I get you pay for location, but it is almost the same price as one of the others. Everything needs updating except the tv and the beds. The room smelled musty, two windows didn't lock, one window didn't have a curtain over it. We prefer to sleep in the dark, not with a light from the neighboring hotel shining in. The blinds and windows were dusty. NO A/C! The bathroom had pink tile. Two people cannot stand in the bathroom at one time. The shower was small and the water only pointed to the corner. You literally could not move it to point to your body. Again not kids friendly in that aspect. The Sheetrock in the shower was molded and obviously painted over several times instead of getting rid of the mold first. The room was clean, but there was urine in the toilet. Ewe The ice bucket came with a baggie- good thing because there was dirt in the bottom of the bucket. Lastly we were on the bottom floor and the floors creaked. It was impossible to be quiet. Walking across the room was loud and sounded like you were stomping. We were relieved to be in the bottom floor and not disturb neighbors. Until morning when the people above woke up at 5:30 in the morning and it sounded like animals above us. I am always honest about our experiences. Usually do not leave a bad review. This place needs help. We were just disappointed to have paid so much for so little.

We booked for 2 nights and something came up and the staff cancelled my second day nonrefundable charges without any issues. Wow! Most hotels give you no refunds! The staff are amazing and so were the rooms. We had the full ocean view room slept peacefully with the window open hearing the waves. Beds very comfortable. The only issue was there was only one mirror in the room. AAA+

  • Apr 12, 2018 by Joanna Morehead

This place is a quaint and serene hidden gem. No frills or even a phone in my room but who cares with these views and peace and quiet. I lucked out and got a corner ocean view room for me and my pup and it was the best nights sleep I ever had. Very affordable as well. If you're looking for something simple & quiet with killer views stay here.

Second time staying here. It is clean and is in a perfect location. You can walk downtown. You can walk to the beach. And the view from our room was bar none the best. And we have stayed at most all the hotels in Pismo at triple the cost, but no more.... We got upgraded due to a small issue with the wall hair dryer in our room. Trish was so accommodating. She got maintenance on it and got us into another room. Amazing customer service. We are definitely booking this place again! No wonder it is always full.

We live locally and were relieved to find a hotel that would accept our pet for a couple of days while work was being done on our home. The room was absolutely terrible, just horribly run down, old, and funky. First, the window from our room was very exposed and there was zero privacy unless the drapes were totally closed. Speaking of drapes, the rod had dislodged and the drapes were hanging down on one side. My husband fixed it. The lamp did not work, so I assumed it was the bulb and went to the desk to get a replacement. The replacement didn't work, and so we pulled the mattress away from the wall to discover the lamp was not plugged in. There was only one lamp, so no light for the other side of the bed. The room was ridiculously tiny. The carpet was old and worn. The desk was so tiny it was unusable and there was no light on the desk so you couldn't use it anyway. The weather was cold and the tiny little wall heater was rusty and very noisy and we had to run it constantly. The bathroom was awful. The flooring was lifting off the sub-floor and the toilet was actually not even fastened securely. We are thin people and my husband at 5 foot 10 inches and 165 pounds could barely fit in the shower. On a positive note, the staff people were polite and flexible on an early check in. Also, the property is in such a nice location and I enjoyed walking my dog to the cliff seating area. And the fire pits around the property were cool. The bed was neatly made each day. As I said before, I live here and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone visiting, which is too bad. From the outside it has an original charm, but our room at least was unworkable. We left a day early.

  • Feb 27, 2018 by Claudia Saldaña

The place looks nice on the outside but it really wasn't great inside. It was somewhat clean and didn't have an odor which was good. The shower was horrible and needs to be worked on. The walls were cracking and you can tell the paint was old. Our tv had to be tinkered with in order to get the cable to work.
There was a huge stain on one of the pillows which was not cool.
    Won't be staying here again.

We got together for a memorial service. Each room was hand picked by myself. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The only drawback was that I requested downstairs rooms. Our family member died from complications from falling down a flight of stairs. It was disappointing to arrive and find many people in our family had been assigned upstairs rooms.

  • Feb 12, 2018 by Betsy L

Lucked into wonderful weather, the property was as advertised simple clean rooms with minimum amenities. The property was able to accommodate our group of four couples with comfortable king beds. Two of us had ocean view rooms with amazing views. Our unit #210 even had a great deck next to it for cocktails and viewing.

  • Jan 22, 2018 by Thomas Neighbour

For the price is not bad. Comfortable. I stayed in the ocean view room where I saw whales swimming I the sea which was a nice surprise. The accomadation could do with updating as it's getting old now.

A little old and the stairwell to the beach is closed but firm mattress clean room quite hotel. My only knock being breakfast is a little far away. Staff was very polite and friendly took care of our needs instantly. Great wifi and a large brand new tv. Thought the room was large enough with no musty odor.

Avoid if you can. The room with partial ocean view looks out onto noisy parking lots. But more importantly the room was dirty and there were long hairs on the sheets. The carpeted floor was revolting and all the surfaces and the single bedside table looked like they hadn't been dusted in a long time. The room smelled like a locker room: feet and bleach. The blinds were mangled. The walls cracked and peeling. We were positively disgusted staying here. Looks absolutely nothing like the photos.

  • Jan 02, 2018 by Erika C.

This hotel is way run-down! VERY out dated.. When you sit on the toilet your thigh is hitting the wall. We checked into the hotel at about 8pm and our hotel door was cracked open! Super weird. We walked in and the place just reeked of urine, hence the portable fan going (on a cold night). Walls are very thin, could hear the neighbors tv on- the remote didn't work. Couldn't open or shut the blinds. no trash can in the bathroom. No ironing board. Pretty sad place

  • Jan 01, 2018 by Maria McGinley

We loved that we were allowed to bring our dog. The room was small and nice enough for an overnight visit. There were dog hairs from previous guests, but that is to be expected for a pet friendly hotel. The floor felt a little grimey, but overall it was adequate.

  • Dec 30, 2017 by Brandon Gilbrech

It was an aged and perfectly average hotel. The conceierge was kind, the process was simple and the room was adequate. The sheets had remanants of the dogs that had slept there before, but considering I brought my dog to stay, and he slept in the bed, it makes a lot of sense. We had a lot of folks coming and going, so alot of noise, but parking was plentiful and the heater worked plus free coffee. Pretty good. If you don't have a pet I wouldn't recommend this place, you're better off at the sister property, bit if you're traveling with your pooch, this is a just fine serve the purpose place to stay.

So glad I read the TripAdvisor reviews. If you're looking for luxury and top amenities, this is Not the place for you. If you want clean, comfortable, great views and a fantastic staff you'd be wise to check in to the Tides. Through March they are having a great deal! The staff are more than helpful and we enjoyed the perfect location to downtown Pismo Beach. Rumor is the current structure will be torn down for a new multi-story building. Get in now while the you can still get the charm and the prices are still low. We loved it! We have already made plans for March.

Will go to Motel 6 next time. Stayed in one of the tiny rooms near registration office. Walls are paper thin so we could hear conversations in adjacent rooms and guests moving around overhead sounded like a thundering herd of elephants. Shower is the size of a shoe box and both my husband and I were scalded by hot water in middle of our showers when cold water supply mysteriously disappeared. Bathroom was poorly lit with bubbling paint. Not worth the rates charged.

Made reservation several months in advance for a 5 night stay through a marketing site that manages a number of hotels but called directly to The Tides to firm up specific room location; promised first floor near rear (away from highway, along shoreline cliff)....not "if available' or "we'll try", but a firm commitment. Upon arrival informed only room available was on second floor (very steep narrow stairwell) and clerk said there was no record of any special request in the computer. First impression: pretty small, absolutely bare room (no artwork on walls, only some old window treatments that looked like they were ready for the junk yard, 1 minuscule table. Beds were OK, but the rest was a nightmare...large window almost the same size of the door adjacent to it did not lock! (Room clerk assured us the area was"vey safe"when we called to complain. A plug-in fan was there, but very noisy (needed it as room was very warm). One of the beds was wedged in front of a another broken-down window with shoddy draperies that were crushed behind the bed. Bathroom was a JOKE!!! The one in our small camping trailer is larger. Tiny sink with barely working faucet (almost no water pressure. Did have a decent size shower, BUT the non-adjustable (not just the spray pattern, but impossible to change its direction of spray) new looking shower head was installed about 3 -5 inches from the opening (parallel) so that there was no way to stand under the water and even standing in the center and leaning toward it, water hit only my forehead! The noise from construction site (not warned about this) immediately outside the rear windows started about 6 am...when cement and other large trucks started backing into position (beep, beep, etc.) and workmen gathered to start talking about the day, dragging their tools out of the trucks, etc but technically did not start "real work" until 7 am. The clerk the next morning was totally unsympathetic. We checked out and found a wonder place just 2 properties north.

We stayed here for 3 nights with our dog during our recent evacuation from the Thomas fire. We couldn't have made a better choice. This is an charming, old-style place - immensely comfortable and clean - new flooring throughout, and well maintained. The staff were wonderfully helpful and sweet. The bed was so comfy. Fridge in room. Beautiful water views from the end of the property. Walkable (7 blocks or so) to downtown, a two block walk to beach access. We will definitely be back here during our next visit to Pismo.

Stayed for 3 nights, with our young lab. Room was large, bathroom was small but everything was clean. Bed was very comfortable, and all the employees were friendly and helpful, they even gave us list of pet friendly restaurants Just the kind of place we like, not a large chain motel, smaller place with better character. Lots of outside seating, unbelievable views. Next time we might try one of the cottages, they look wonderful! Thanks for a great time, we will be back!

I had way too high expectations of this place. Nothing lived up to them. There was no unobstructed view of the ocean, the room felt completely exposed and insecure because nothing locked, and the walls were so thin we heard people cough through them. Keep your expectations at the two-star level, and you'll be fine.

  • Oct 30, 2017 by Jayson W.

Place has character but I wouldn't stay in the main building again. Way to noisy.  This appears to be an old apartment that was converted to a hotel. Walls are very thin and even dogs running around upstairs was loud. I'd consider staying in the cottages or beach house if the price were right. For the rates they charge on those though, they need to fix their beach access. Beds/pillows were comfy, again, just need some sound deadening in this old wood framed building.

We loved the old time feel of the place. It was very clean and the service we received from Trisha was great. We will go back.

i think i have found my new favorite hotel in the area! i love everything about this property! we stayed the night for our anniversary in room 117. the view is absolutely ah-mazing! i was blown away at the view from our room and little balcony area. the property has flowers and plants as well as several very cool seating areas to enjoy the view. there was horse shoes a fire pit. the little cottage we stayed in yes is old, but i loved it. the bed was comfortable, it has good size kitchen, and cable. only downfalls were the bathroom was tiny, the blinds wouldn't close and the area around the beautiful picture window was rusted and old. these were very definitely not deal breakers though. there is also beach access a block in either direction which is super convenient. the location is fabulous, walking distance to all of pismo. love love it! the price for ocean view was very fair!

Beds very comfortable, can park very close to your room, free wifi and our large dog was welcomed here. Dirt area across small parking lot for our dog to do his business, but there is grass right outside your room. Poop bags are provided. Small refrigerator in room, coffee maker and coffee provided.. Bathroom and shower are small. You need to ask the front desk if you need a hairdryer which they will provide. Office staff all very friendly. We were very happy with our stay.

  • Oct 11, 2017 by ChristiC_12

I checked in a bit early and Greg, the front desk, was able to accommodate us. He was nice, checked us in fast, and overall made me glad I came here. The room had a view of the ocean. We had our own lawn chairs to look out, our own grass area, a little path to walk and get an even better view of the ocean. The room was large, came with a fridge and microwave. I was happy. Very nice hotel.

  • Oct 10, 2017 by Daniel S

The hotel on the outside is very nice. Love the fire pits and the relaxing outdoor views of the ocean. Unfortunately, the rooms are old and in desperate need of upgrades. The shower was so small, the bathroom vanity was very low and old. No AC and since it was a warm holiday weekend the room was very uncomfortable. We held the windows open with hangers. Great location between downtown Pismo and Avila Beach.

This place is adorable, kept it's old school charm and is pet friendly. The staff here is very nice and polite. The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable.. Awesome at The Tides... Plus it's right on the Ocean...

  • Oct 02, 2017 by Kelly V

Came to the Tides for a weekend getaway from L.A. The property and and room were clean and the view was amazing. A nice quiet location convenient to downtown PB. There is no extra charge for pets and contrary to what it says on the website, all rooms and cottages are pet friendly. The staff was friendly and helpful as well... We will be back in the spring!

  • Sep 26, 2017 by Tonje E

We stayed one night on our California road trip. The room was fine, the beds were good, and the WiFi was great! The bathroom was not so nice: the water pressure was very bad, and the sink was not draining well. It was also not possible to go down to the beach from the hotel, as the gate was locked. It was an alright stay for just one night.

  • Sep 26, 2017 by Paige R

Stayed in Cottage 112 for 340.00 total per night. 2 Bedroom small outdated old cottage. They are not remodled, and I do not consider that "renovated" either. The carpet and hardwood floor is the only thing they "renovated" if that's what they consider. Beds were comfy and pillows were really good. There is no beach access, and there should be as ALL the other hotels next to it on that whole stretch of beach has theirs updated and maintained. The windows do not lock, some of the windows don't even open. They put door hinges to hold the window open. I think that was part of their renovating. The fire pit is right outside. That looked like a nice little area but we did not use it. The view is nice. Close to downtown. I would not recommend it for the price. If it was 200 bucks a night I would. Get the beach access fixed guys. I know you can afford it.

  • Sep 21, 2017 by Sarah C.

Their bed was pretty comfortable. The bathroom was small and the shower to uncomfortably small. I also wish there was an AC in the room. The floor fan was too noisy. The coastal access right from their property was closed off but the access was only 2 blocks away so not too bad. They are dog friendly. The ice machine was behind the building and it was little scary.

  • Sep 08, 2017 by Megan Y.

This place is gross. There's black hairs on the bed and we're blonde, there's no ventilation other than windows and filthy oscillating fans so you have to choose between burning up with the windows closed or so much freeway noise you can't sleep. The shower is moldy, there's what appears to be dried up bodily fluids all over the windows. At over $250 a night, I'd expect more... like at a minimum, clean sheets.

Had a very pleasant stay at the Tides. Location is as close as you can get to the beach without getting wet, and only a short drive to downtown Pismo. Staff was very nice and accommodating, room and bathroom were clean. My sheets smells fresh and bed was comfy. Great Stay, thank you. Pet friendly with a $25 per night fee.

Had a great stay there, I really enjoyed the ocean view and the people there were very nice. I would defently go again, Pismo beach is only 1 or 2 minute walk away.

  • Aug 30, 2017 by Em B.

Great location and views of the ocean!! The fire pits  and outside furniture are wonderful. However, the cottages need a great deal of updating. The appliances are outdated . The furniture is outdated as well.

  • Aug 28, 2017 by Shanteix

Clean. Friendly. Close to town and the beach. We have stayed in most of the hotels in the area and tried this one out of curiosity... and it was great. Not high end. But very clean and basic. Small. But why would you stay in your room when you can walk to town or the beach? For the price it is a great find. Try to get an upper floor. It is an older hotel and not sound proof. But.... for the price and cleanliness and comfy pillows.... it is worth it.

  • Aug 24, 2017 by Sasha L.

I'm quite surprised that people leave negative review for petty stuff when this hotel is your best deal for the prices of 180 degree ocean view rooms. The beds are new and very comfortable. Very clean rooms and very pet friendly environment. Just a few steps to the beach with coastal access to the left of the street. These rooms have character and if you like the brick and mortar $300 boxy rooms then this place is not for you. Love the nook and cranny areas in each room. Awesome staff and very accommodating attitude. This will be my place to go to every time I come to Pismo which is 4 times a year

Had a reservation for 170.00, upon checking in the clerk tried to charge 228.00!  Thankfully, we had the info written down that secured us the lower rate.  That being said, I will spend extra $ to stay someplace else.  This place is GROSS.  Pealing pain, dirty carpets, trash in the hall.  It is pet-friendly, which we appreciated, and got two free doggie poo bags in the deal, but still will never stay here again.

  • Aug 09, 2017 by Almog A.

Small rooms, smell very bad to get inside to room after a long day. The rooms are close from getting fresh air. Very hot to sleep. I had a little small window that they call it " Ocean View " Very disappointed to bring my family there. There is no air to bride in the room. More then this we was 4 ppl at the room and we got just 1 shampoo  1 body soap 1 towel. The room wasn't prepared to 4 people.

  • Aug 09, 2017 by Penuelas G.

Im amazed on how runned down this place is.. For the price they charge you is disgusting!! I got a cottage... The sofa bed was broken... No AC! Only a 10$ fan in every room.. The carpet is fillthy!! Broken window screens!! Come on!! Oh and no beach access!! Come on The Tides!! You make enough money to make improvements.. Def not staying here again . save your money and go to Motel 6!!

  • Aug 08, 2017 by Lina H.

I hated it, the rooms were so old, there was no microwave or air conditioner, it smelled like dogs and fish, and the shower was so old I didn't even shower that night. It looks nice on the outside but there's no pool, the one balcony with chairs and an ocean view is only for room 210 and I found a spider in the bathroom.

  • Aug 08, 2017 by Debby L.

I found this place to be very cute, they were clean and the staff was very friendly. We've stayed there twice now and plan on renting a cabin for New Years Eve with our boys. I love the views and the private deck on the top floor, but you have to rent the room for the deck. Thank you a beautiful place to stay.

Avoid. We spent 2 miserable nights in early July in their 'double queen partial ocean view' room. The room gets really hot in summer. It was super noisy because of the HWY even with the windows closed. The walls are super thin and chances are your neighbor makes use of the big TV in their room. Expect to partake in their entertainment. The room was much smaller and shabbier than it looked in the photos and the only space to lounge is on the beds. They don't have direct beach access since the stairs to the beach are deemed unsafe and locked with a gate. To top it off there is a building right behind the place, your view out the back window is a wall about two yards away. The windows were single pane and very filthy. At $644.25 after tax for 2 nights this was a very poor value for the money.

Stayed with the family for 1night never again
Rooms r big they don't look like the pictures
$200+ a night ur better off in a motel 6 cuz at least they have a/c and not a store brand fan for central air

Showers have very low pressure of water and shower supper supper small so if u have issues with small spaces good look in the shower

U figure with the money they make in this place
They would spend it and up grade the hole place

Oh and they should not allow pets in the rooms cuz
    The rugs might have flees

And when u settle in make sure u check the hole room
We found trash under the beds didn't notice till we got back from the beach

Great view of the beach but no beach acces

I enjoyed my stay here. The only disappointment was the beach access stairs are closed off. Still gave it 5 stars as it was a very pleasant place. It's an older motel but very clean and I appreciate some of the older amenities such as a larger room and the sitting areas right outside my room that you don't often find in a more modern motel.

As much as I would like to give this a good rating I just can't, we had high expectations for this place considering how much we paid for it!, the staff was rude unmotivated to work it seemed & not to sure on their information when asked if I could have room service Ashley in the reception was very rude, unfriendly. I understand that it's early in the morning for a guest to be asking all this questions, but you need to understand that as a guest we look for the getaway experience, for you to make the visit even more Amazing the expected!! & for me it was just not that. This was supposed to be our Honeymoon stay & it was by far one of my worst stays in a hotel for me the room was very small the quality of the room was low class everything looks like it was purchased in the Dollar Store, Extremely LOUD !! Like if there was stomping going on next door to us & on top. My Newly Wife & I decided to take our dog's with us, it was our first lil Fam. Vacation & their first time in the beach & we had the smallest room, My restroom is bigger than that! It felt very suffocated in there. I had also asked Ashley if we could have our room serviced as we stepped out for the day & she guaranteed me that the room would be done to our surprise NOTHING was done we returned & Found it just like we left it. Around 4 pm I decided to go out to take my dog for business & seen another employee there and had to ask him for new everything and Tp we basically had to re-do our room ourself. Also come to find out that they do have Cottages where we could of taken our pets in and had more room to spare but this information was never given to me by phone when asked all Amanda (another employee) told me was that I had to have a lower deck room because of my pups. Only to later see another guest come out a cottage with their Dog. To say the least we were very upset! Left super early this morning couldn't be there another min! This was supposed to be Our HONEYMOON & it was by far not a good one. I should of gone with my first reservation at the Cove Inn that place looked Amazing !!! & for about the same price we paid here! $590 not worth it at all!!! They have nothing special for newlyweds or a romantic package when asked. Ughhh by far the worst we stayed two long ass night's, the carpet was sooooo dirty I walked barefoot and my feet were black I'm sure they noticed my footprints on the wall, as soon as we sat on the edge of the bed the mattress would come forward & the headboard was put on very cheap way! I hit my head on it very hard btw trying to get comfortable in bed. I would NEVER EVER stay here nor recommend it to anyone !!!!! Stay away from here save your money your better off staying home for this service ! GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH AND THAT IS NOT HERE!!!

We loved this place ! We stayed in cottage 120 and watched whales through the large living room window. The view is amazing. The cottage is a charming, 50's style bungalow with the original built-ins. It was perfect for us. Both bedrooms have king size beds and the there's a full kitchen and living room. The couch in the living room is a sofa bed which gave us room for everyone. The staff is great too. Blair had the best suggestions and was extremely helpful. It was the beach vacation we envisioned when we booked it.

Pros: budget friendly, comfy beds and pillows, just near enough to walk downtown, pet friendly, mini fridge and coffee in room, flat screen TV w cable, free WiFi that works, fan in room Cons: paper, I mean really paper thin walls! Could hear my neighbors entire 40 minute phone conversation at 6am. Not just hear it but understood every word he and the people he was talking to on speaker! He was rude to do that yes but walls so thin couldn't drown it out. Doors slam, noisy when people on stairs or floor overhead but it did quiet down by 11pm. Very small room and bathroom (109). No pool. No direct beach access but easy walk 2 blocks down to safe staircase. Our room had no view but did have 2 windows to get ocean breeze. No AC. Management should consider lamps w plugs for phones, Kindle, iPad...chargers. and ceiling fans too. I would not stay here again in the hotel part due to noise, thin walls, small rooms but would consider the cottages for more privacy and quiet and for ocean view.

Slugs came into our room in the middle of the night and left a foul odor. They ended up switching our for a bigger room. Average amenities and mold in the shower. View of the beach is amazing and quick beach access

I really like the rustic feel of the hotel with the nice mix of modern to it.

  • Jun 22, 2017 by Natalie T.

This darling little inn has so much potential but as other reviews have stated, the lack of attention to detail just tanks their level of service. I stayed here solo for two nights in one of the first floor rooms. The staff members I interacted with were polite and professional. The room, however, was pitiful. For starters, the "closet" was a space that was nearly impossible to reach because of where they put the desk. The bathroom was clean but there were no hooks to hang up towels anywhere except the ones inconveniently located on the back of the door. The shower had a knob that was configured in a way that 'cold' and 'too-hot' were the only temperature options. My TV wasn't working properly. I reached for the phone to call the front desk only to find the phone had no cord connecting it to the wall. It was completely useless. I instead walked up and explained the issues to the gentleman up front. He did his best to help me, but was only able to partially fix the TV. The walls are incredibly thin and the adjacent beach houses meant that I had the chance to overhear every early morning, nearby conversation. I love kids but hearing them yell at 7am when I'm on vacation is not my idea of fun. The bed, though big and mostly comfy, slanted to one side. And despite being gone half the day, I came back to an unmade bed and no new towels. Tourism is the number one industry in Pismo and so when it comes to places like this, I expect the best. They have prime real estate and an excellent property that they are letting fall by the wayside. A painting was hung crooked in my room and it drove me crazy. (Type-A personality.) But it's things like attention to detail that patrons notice. I expect more from business/property owners. For close to $200 a night, my stay should have been at least one step above adequate, and it was not.

Me and my boyfriend just recently stayed the night there. When we went up to our room it had a weird smell, there was mold in the shower, we had our own private patio but everybody decided to go and drink on it in the middle of the night. When we called the lobby nobody did anything about. The next morning I woke up with bug bites all up one of my legs. Definitely won't be staying there again.

We did a 22-day roadtrip across the US, and this was the most disorganized place we have seen. Which is a shame because it could be so much better. We had booked a 2-bedroom cottage for 4 people and arrived shortly after 4pm. Keep in mind that check out is at 11am, so they had at least 5 hours to prepare. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to know what was going on, the lady at reception kept sending people around in a rush, but displayed only complete confusion. As it turns out, our cottage was not ready to check in. In fact, we were told to leave and come back after one hour. When we returned 90 minutes later, there was still cleaning in the house, so we waited some more. Nobody bothered to tell us when it would be ready, we just assumed we could move in when we saw the cleaning lady leave through the back door. There was nobody else from the staff to be seen. Obviously housekeeping did not have enough time, as we were then missing towels, toilet paper and other necessities. In the kitchen, we were bothered by the strong smell, only to discover a collection of empty bottles under the sink, with a full trash can of rotten food. Simply disgusting! Once we found a staff member, the cleaning lady returned, and we were finally able to settle in around 7 pm. Obviously a less than perfect start, and nobody from the hotel bothered with an explanation or any compensation - after all, we spent over 300 USD for the one night, and lost an entire afternoon. I am uncertain whether we just had a bad day, but from the way the situation was handled, I can imagine this being only one of many problems. Other than that, I can imagine this being a nice place to stay, as the cottage was well equipped and offered a limited view of the ocean.

Very run down no ac and extremely rude staff. We were burning up in our room with a 3 month old baby that wasn't working out for us and the front desk manager didn't care told us they own all the hotels in the area and that none offer ac. We had to throw away 100$ and stay at a different hotel and guess what they didn't own it and wow magical it had ac. It was literally cooler outside then it was in our room. The windows were painted shut and barely let any air in once I forced them open. The fan in the room was filthy we had to request a second and still couldn't get the air to circulate with both running. The beach access was non existent just a locked gate that didn't let you get to the steps on the other end. I wouldn't stay here again not even if they gave me a free night stay.

We booked this motel as part of our road trip up Highway 1 from LA to San Francisco. We were shattered when we arrived after a great but long day. We found it easily and was greeted by a very friendly receptionist. As we were away for my wife's birthday I had cheekily asked for a room upgrade at the point of booking which I didn't think would come to anything. However, although we hadn't been given an upgrade we were given a fantastic room directly above the reception. It was near luxury, especially compared to other places we stayed at on the same trip. Oddly, although it had been a sunny day Pismo was covered in cloud. We were advised that if we wanted more sun we should drive to Avila Beach about 10 mins away which was baked in sun. We did and didn't regret it! Overall we really happy and could have quite easily stayed a few days!

The reason I give this place the highest mark is that the bed in the room is super comfortable, better than many premium hotels. I usually wake up with a irritated back when traveling, but not at this place. The Inn is close to the Pismo Beach town and waterfront. The structure needs some maintenance, such a fixing broken blinds.

  • May 07, 2017 by Nicole H.

Has great potential to be great, but at best it's just okay. I would never stay here again! It is literally at the beach but the gate was locked that would have given it 1 more star

Pros: *Location *View Cons: *Beach access is closed *Mold on the shower walls/ceiling *Shower is very small *Shower head mounted awkwardly *Bathroom door didn't lock *Walls are thin *Certain staff members were unprofessional *Dog hair all over floor and furniture A group of four of us has now stayed here twice. The first time was in the 2-bedroom cottage, and the second time was in a standard room with 2 beds. COTTAGE: Obviously, we came back a second time. So the first stay in the cottage was not terrible. The view was beautiful, aside from the yellow caution tape blocking off access the other rooms between us and the beach. Also, the gate to the beach was chained closed, so we had to walk two blocks over to go down to the beach. When we first got into the room, there was for hair on the floor, couch, and even the table. It seems that the facility allows dogs, but is not equipped to thoroughly clean up after them. However, after expressing our concerns to the front desk, housekeeping didn't take long to come clean up a bit better. We also received a small discount. Overall, the stay in the cottage was decent. We won't be staying again, though. When we came the second time, a family who stayed in the cottage informed us that there were fleas and the heater would not turn off; they were bitten and burning and had to leave. While this was not our experience when we had stayed in the cottage, I do not doubt their story and it is enough for me to look elsewhere when staying in Pismo. STANDARD ROOM - 2 QUEEN BEDS - 1ST FL. Our second stay was not as pleasant. Beach access was still closed. I also want to note that not all rooms have direct view of the ocean. When we walked into our room, I noticed a smashed mosquito on the picture that was hanging on the wall, and had to smash another one that was already in the room. But ok, a couple of bugs, big deal. I then go into the bathroom to realize the door won't lock, and the window wouldn't stay open unless we propped it up. This was one of the cheapest rooms we could find close to the beach, so I'm willing to deal with minor annoyances. The next morning, at about 5:30am I woke up to what sounded like 8 Chihuahuas running around upstairs. Walls are very thin. When I got into the very small shower, I noticed that the shower head is mounted in a way that it hits the wall at about the level of my face, so I had to stand in the corner next to the water instead of under it. Its hard to accurately explain; I'll just say it's difficult to thoroughly clean your whole body unless you're tall, skinny and flexible. Even then, good luck washing your butt. To top it off, there was mold on the ceiling and walls of the shower. We immediately told the person at the front desk, and the first words out of his mouth were, "if it was a problem, why didn't you tell us yesterday?" Mind you, we got in late at night and did not take a shower till morning. But regardless of the situation, I feel that was not an appropriate response. A bit later we talked to housekeeping who had been walking by, and they said the mold was under the paint so they couldn't do much about it. It was clear that they already knew of the issues in our room well before we arrived. Housekeeping eventually came in and sprayed some type of cleaning solution and tried to wipe the ceiling, which obviously made no difference. But at least they pretended to care. Upon checkout, we presented our issue once again. The guy (Darien I believe his name was) at the front desk simply said, "what are we supposed to do? Tear out the walls and repaint it?" I couldn't believe the lack of professionalism. He called his manager (Greg?), and the manager gave us a small discount. Darien gave us Greg's number, and we called to talk to him directly. We reminded him of our issues with our stay and also told him about the poor service provided by his staff. He was apologetic and increased our discount. However, we will avoid staying here again.

I used to love this place. The rooms used to be like 78 a night. For what a older hotel is it was worth the price. Haven't been in a few years but now their price has doubled!!!I'd rather stay at a best Western at that price. Workers there were so nice though. Was great service a few years ago.

This is a good value and nicely furnished motel style place. Lovely walk along beach into town. But the corner room we had by the stairs was very noisy with people going up and down. Noise came through ceiling from other rooms too. If you stayed upstairs and not in the corner that wouldn't be a problem. Unsurprisingly plenty of road noise given proximity to 101 highway.

  • Apr 10, 2017 by Nicole Scalise

We got to share our room with slugs all night. Could not even walk around the room without seeing slug trails, even woke up to them in our food. We will not be staying here again.

  • Apr 04, 2017 by Vanessa S.

When we got there the room seemed okay until he tried to use the restroom after bringing in our bags we tried to close the door and you had to slam the door shut! We were so sleepy that we didn't mind... the next morning when we went to use the shower my kids got burned because the shower turned extremely hot then cold! We had to stand in the Conner of the shower every time the water will change. We had left to go eat at 11am and after go to the beach, we got back at 3 and the room wasn't made we had went to the front desk and the lady at the front said the ladies were behind and gave us towels that night we could hear everything the walls are paper thin! The next morning we leaving home and we turned in the key to the front desk and I complain about the shower and the room not getting cleaned the man at the front said he couldn't give me a discount but that's not what I wanted! I wanted him to know show someone else's kids doesn't get burned from the water and he told me that the housekeepers don't clean the room if your here for more days! WHAT!!! That being said the next time we stay at Pismo we will be staying at seacrest hotel!!!!

Cute lil room setting. Double queen sized beds not set up close to each other, nice. The lil room felt more like at home than a motel. I enjoyed having my windows open and allowing the nice clean air to come in. Room service had came by to give us fresh towels and asked to come in but my husband told her to come back in an hour, she never returned. We called the front desk later on that evening and asked if we could use the vacuum, he delightfully allowed us to borrow the vacuum and gave me a couple fresh more towels when I asked him for some. The floors make a lot of noise when walking, somewhat of an issue when you have lil ones. Might return.

About a mile from the center of town along Highway 1, The Tides offers two bedroom cottages as well as single rooms at affordable rates. The cottage was fully furnished and supplied with everything needed for a family visit. Cottage 120 has the best unobstructed view of the ocean. Dated but pleasant; easy access to the beach.

  • Mar 05, 2017 by David M

My wife and I stayed here for one night. The location is great, but for $210/night, I would've expected much better. This place is like a Motel 6 or a Travelodge. The room was poorly lit (no lights over the desk); no suitcase stand, no towel rack in bathroom, no surfaces to put your stuff, plus old and decrepit bathroom fixtures. Window in bathroom did not stay open unless you propped it. Needs paint. I was given three different passwords for the internet before one worked. Plugs were few and hard to find, coffee in room was awful. Overpriced and under-maintained.

This is my 5th stay here since last year. I cannot say how disappointed I was. I booked this cottage in November and was expecting something great. The "cottage" is a dirty, dingy, smelly place. There was so much carpet powder (and accompanying odor) that no amount of vacuuming would have gotten it up. The bathroom window was clear - I hung a towel to prevent passers-by from seeing in. Ice and vending machine is right outside that window. No screens on the living area windows which I didn't realize until the next morning - I had opened the windows to get some air circulating. Kitchen was old dingy with rusted sink. None of the 3 TVs worked. The living room did get reception but only one station: PBS. I called my friends and told them not to come. I spent most of the night trying to find other accommodations for Saturday night, which I did. I loved this place when I first came here a year ago but each subsequent visit has been worse and worse. This birthday weekend was ruined. I will no longer recommend this Inn. And to top it off when I voiced my concerns (more than once) both that evening and the next morning, the girl at the desk could only tell me she doesn't work at this location and doesn't know anything. Both days. It's a shame for places to not care about their returning clientele and possible word-of-mouth recommendations. I'm really disappointed and sad about this. Waste of time and waste of money.

  • Feb 20, 2017 by Karen O.

We visit the San Luis Obispo area frequently. This weekend we tried the Tides. I have to say it was very disappointing. Rooms aren't expensive but for what you get to me are very overpriced. Beds decently comfortable but still had worst night sleep 2 nights running. The walls are thin. You can hear Conversations next door, footsteps upstairs, and traffic from 101. Ugh!! They allow dogs but no facility to wash their feet before coming in from sand. Rooms had no blow dryers though the description touts that. Not even a box of Kleenex in the room. Water pressure was decent but the temp was variable fluctuating between brrrr and scalding! Very unpleasant. Shower nozzle not well mounted either so awkward angle to get under it. Bottom line Not a great weekend!

Our family had two cottages here in December. We only stayed one night but wish we stayed longer!!! The cottages were so spacious and clean. I would definitely stay here again if we are ever back. Unfortunately the night we stayed here, it was pouring rain the whole time so we couldn't take in the view; maybe next time!!

  • Feb 08, 2017 by mprovedor

We stayed here while visiting Cal Poly Univ. Really liked the grounds, the firepit and the view are amazing. The staff was very nice as well and gave us very good dining recommendation. Felt very safe on property. Our room was two beds and nice size.

  • Feb 03, 2017 by Greg R.

Wow... 5 stars for sure, great cozy place to stay, quiet rooms, perfect charming place. The paint chips, the dated bathrooms, the ocean view... awesome :) Desk clerks were great, couldn't have been nicer

  • Jan 30, 2017 by Sam P

I was a little dissapointed when I arrived at our here, the pictures were very deceiving. The rooms were small and the shower even smaller. Even more dissapointing was the fact that only 2 other people were staying at the hotel when we were there for the night and I felt we were put in the worst room of the entire place. There is no beach access and I just really felt that for the price we could have expected more. Perhaps the cottages were better value.

  • Jan 26, 2017 by natclay

This motel gets very mixed reviews. It appears that people who stay in the cottage/s are relatively happy and people who have a motel room are not. We had a motel room. We stayed for one night, passing through on our way to LA and i wouldn't want to stay here any longer. It was cheap and I suppose we got budget accommodation for a budget price. As in other reviews, it could be newer, cleaner and fresher. The room had a definite dog smell and you do need ear plugs for the road noise. We did sleep ok but the bathroom for our morning shower has seen better days. On a positive note, it does have a microwave and fridge.

  • Jan 16, 2017 by Trinh N.

I didn't know what to expect here because I heard both good and bad reviews about this place. But after staying two nights here, I think it was a good place. The only bad thing was noise. You could hear noises from cars from the freeway. My room was one of the farthest from the street but I could hear sounds of cars from the freeway all night. Besides that everything else was fine. Also, The little snacks basket was sweet.

  • Jan 03, 2017 by mcprice2015

We were overcharged on our credit card with no one able to correct it or even understand what they had done. The room was not great and although the beach is within walking distance, the gate is locked giving no access to the beach. I would definitely never go there again and recommend that there are many nicer and less expensive choices in Pismo Beach.

  • Jan 01, 2017 by Danny B.

I SO much want to give this place a good review. It's in a great spot. The rooms are sufficiently pleasant. But it's the simple things that kill its potential. There's a walkway to the beach but it's gated off. The room walls are paper thin. Conversations are heard from rooms over. Conversations from outside might as well be in your room. The staff seems to love to talk/carry on long conversations in outside voices in the corridors as well as carry their own soundtrack of music. Ironically I'm sure they are not allowed to use headphones in case someone  want to talk to them but I would MUCH rather have to walk up to them than to here thumping music constantly walk back and forth. The staff is extremely nice and extremely available, however attention to details is business. (Aaaaaand some kids playing catch with a football just hit my outside wall as I write this) did I mention I came back to take a quick nap before I continue my day?) life... If you want to stay in Pismo for a decent price in a decent place (and you are a heavy sleeper with the patience of Buddha - this is your spot). The individual Cottages look great! (And away from the commotion) That was written yesterday... this morning I was woken up by one of the staff walking in my room. Then them talking about it right outside my non-soundproof door. What's your money worth?

  • Dec 31, 2016 by Liz W

We drove up to Pismo Beach for a quick family vacation with our two teenagers and our Golden Retriever, and this was a great place to stay. The cottage was pet-friendly and had two bedrooms, one bath, and a full kitchen. Each bedroom had a king sized bed, and there was a queen size pull out bed in the living room. Everything was clean and well maintained. It's an older hotel, which we liked- it had charm! The ocean is right there, and beach access very close by. We enjoyed sitting around the fire pit in the evening, and in front of the cottage with our coffee in the morning. Downtown Pismo is within walking distance, but we drove anyway. We appreciated the complimentary snack basket, and the staff was very friendly & helpful. I would totally stay here again!

My brother, father and I decided to take a trip from Redondo Beach to San Francisco. Instead of driving the entirety of the trip in one day my father decided to book a hotel half way up Pacific Coast Highway. My father booked this hotel and regrets every second of it. First of all, this hotel offers NOTHING. Rooms don't have air conditioning or a heater. It was 40 degrees at night and since the windows are absolutely garbage all of the cold air was getting in. We were all freezing. Second, you can hear EVERYTHING from upstairs and next door neighbors. Speaking of next door neighbors, the ones we had were a bunch of white trash drunks yelling all night. IN FACT, they were being so obnoxious we had to go out and tell them twice to be quiet. They kept on being loud and eventually the Pismo Beach Police were called to shut them up. This hotel is awful. Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND. Don't waste your money here.

  • Nov 26, 2016 by Sammy L

Good for a night or two, but if you are staying any longer pay the extra for a nicer property. The bathroom ceiling had mold spots, water damage on the floor was bad. The bed was comfy but the room needed blackouts, some rooms had them but we had a corner room that was missing them.

We stayed two nights and wished they has given us a second snack basket lol.

  • Nov 20, 2016 by sheffieldmiller

Hotel was easy to find and clean/ tidy. Only stayed here for one night whilst traveling down the coast. Parking was free and seemed safe. Nice reception staff. Was in walking distance to tourist strip.

  • Nov 03, 2016 by scohen312

While the staff was polite and friendly, & the room was clean, there were a few things that bothered me. The wind was blowing all night & the door was rattling so loudly I couldn't sleep. Also, the blinds didn't close the whole way so the morning sunlight was streaming in. Consequently, we had to change hotels.

  • Oct 28, 2016 by Bluebird823

To be fair, this place is passable for the price--bed was comfortable, wifi is good, and we had one of the few rooms with no view at all that faced the road, so I'm sure I'd feel a little better about it if it was one with a view. (We knew we weren't getting a view). But if you are used to hotel conveniences, this place won't cut the mustard. Here is a list of the negative points: Very old with no ambiance at all--windows are old and stick when you try to open them; itsy bitsy space with old wooden chair and old desk. The desk was in front of the closet, due to space, so had to lean over it to get anything out. In fact, had to unpack and put stuff in drawers just so we had room to walk. The desk had no light or outlets. In fact, there were no extra outlets anywhere for plugging in devices. No shelves in tiny bathroom for putting any toiletries and no towel racks for hanging towels. One bar of soap to share between shower and sink and broken blind on the window. In other words--kinda shabby. We knew there was a least beach access, but when we walked to the place to go down to the beach, there was a sign for no trespassing. The first night, we were awoken at 3 am by people cursing and yelling at each other outside the window. It was also disheartening to find out the staff is not on the premises between 11 pm and 7 am, so you have to call another property to get a hold of anyone. The fighting died down in an hour or so, and we were able to go back to sleep. The staff seemed helpful when I went to the office to ask for some towels. We have decided in the future, when we go to the beach, we should spring for the Seacrest next door--we've stayed there many times and it is well worth spending a few bucks extra for a nice room and good quality.

  • Oct 06, 2016 by David T.

Nice surprise!   We thought it was going to be old and stinky because the price was so low.  Great view and nice porch beside #118 over looking the beach with an unobstructed view.

  • Sep 27, 2016 by K F.

We tried to stay at the Spyglass Inn but they don't allow dogs so they referred us to their ugly stepsister, the Tides Inn and Cottages. $175 for the most dated little room with indoor outdoor carpet. See my photo on the 1960's tile shower hole in the wall complete with mildew in the grout. I just couldn't bring myself to get in there. You would need to move the "desk" if you wanted to use or get anything out of the "closet" that had no door. There was a Keurig on top of the microwave which was stacked on top of the refrigerator. Nice amenities but kind of an eyesore. You can see daylight along three sides of the front door. Do they know about weather stripping? We had a lower level inn room vs. a cottage. When our upstairs neighbors arrived there was creaking like you'd imagine in a haunted house. Luckily, they either settled in or went out to dinner. The tv remote controller was on it's last leg and you had to adjust the volume and power by using the buttons on the tv. All of this just made the whole room feel yucky. We were told that they no longer have beach access because city would not give them the permit. Something tells me that their path to the beach was poorly (or not) maintained and became a hazard but I that is speculation on my part. So I'm giving them 2 stars because the bed and it's linens were pretty, comfy and the most up to date things in our little room. Oh and nice chairs and fire table outside in the "common area." I'm hoping that they will put some money towards up dating their property if they are going to charge these prices in the off season.

  • Sep 25, 2016 by Sam Recchio

No A/C. Numerous bugs in the room. Outdated decor. Horrible smell. Old building old ways of staying out of town. Spend the extra bucks and enjoy your nights. And the door never fully closed. Had to prop a chair to feel safe.

  • Sep 21, 2016 by Hal E

My wife and I were looking for a place with an ocean view on short notice. The Tides had a room and looked good online so we booked it. We arrived in town early so we drove by to take a look. It appeared run down and tired on the outside but we had little alternative. Our choice to stay turned out to be excellent. What we perceived as run down and tired turned out to quaint and charming. (it could use a little paint and patch on the outside though) The room though small was very cozy and comfortable. The views of the ocean from the room were great. I'm not sure if all rooms have such a great view but our did. The bed was comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The price was less than we would have paid in San Luis Obispo which was a plus.

  • Sep 16, 2016 by Carmen B.

Carpets were wet and disgusting, felt sticky and unclean. Very noisy due to proximity to freeway. I wouldn't do it again.

  • Sep 16, 2016 by Astrid M

Just checked in to this little gem today to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary, and this place exceeded our expectations!  Not only is the view SPECTACULAR but the staff went above and beyond for us. We reserved a single king room, but on arrival we went into our room and it was super hot and stuffy. Please don't get me wrong, the wrap around windows are wonderful as I love all the natural light, but with the sun beating in, it was just too hot. So I called the front desk and they were SO helpful. No problems at all, they switched us to a new room with better ventilation and actually UPGRADED us for no charge!! What?!!! Thank you Amanda and the other wonderful lady working the desk for making our special day so much more wonderful than we could have ever imagined. You guys are the best!!

The poorest place I have stayed in a long time ...... The rooms are old and dated with a gap around the door which was massive. The bathroom was the biggest shock it looked as if it had not be changed since the 70s. The shower was very old and took along time to get to a temperature that was bearable. But this didn't last long as it changed very quickly and could go freezing cold or red hot as it did several times burning the youngest child in our party. When I reported this to the reception there was no concern shown. Not a hotel I would ever return to or recommend to anyone

  • Aug 27, 2016 by Tracy M.

The carpets in this motel either need to be replaced or deep cleaned. My daughter ran around for an hour after having a bath and the bottom of her feet looked like she had walked on black top for hours. So gross! I took a picture of her feet and showed the front desk and all they said is that it was disgusting and that they would let house keeping know. It is also worth mentioning that there is no air conditioning in the rooms but there was a box fan that we put in front of the TV that didn't work and it did drown out the sound of the highway and kept us comfortable enough. Very disappointed with how much the room cost since you can't even walk around in the room without needing to rewash your feet before putting on shoes or getting in bed.

  • Aug 25, 2016 by JeroendeFrans

By looking at most of the pictures of the hotel, you'd never guess it's located right on highway 101...so you might have a brilliant view on the sea but won't hear much of the waves unless you're in one of the cottages. If like us you're in one of the normal rooms , then it's hello to a night of listening to lorries and cars pass by, and don't count on any double glazing to diminish the noise. While trying to sleep, you will at least be able to eavesdrop on every bit of your neighbours' conversations or moves through their rooms: I'm not too sure what the walls are built of but it's definitely not sound absorbent! We were lucky in that we came at on a cool night so didn't need any AC. Good for us as there wasn't any, only a fan. Avoid this place if you can.

On the way home from work. (Yes, that makes me a local) I decided i wanted to sleep on the ocean tonight. Kind of an instant staycation if you will. I have been espying this property for years. I found a great rate on Hotels.com. and found my ocean view! The young man named Chris checked me in and was courteous, helpful and hospitable! Its nice to find someone who actually knows what HOSPITALITY means! I was totally enchanted by this Vintage Property. Huge corner window in room 210. A lovely Cape Cod blue on the accent wall and some cheerful artwork. Original tile in shower which I appreciated with a great shower head. Coffee maker, fridge and microwave as well. Nice quality linens on the comfy bed. Highly recommend. I shall return

This is a cute little motel, very 1960's-ish the type we love to stay at. We rented the Beach House for 4 nights which offered a lot more privacy than the actual motel. It was roughly $500 a night and while we really enjoyed most of it, there was room for improvement. Pros: lots of room! It had it's own little yard & since we brought our two dogs having that was perfect. Safe, quiet, area. Spacious house. Well stocked kitchen & living areas (blankets, pillows, dishes, pans, towels), pool table & foosball table. Three TVs (if you want to watch TV in such a beautiful place), nice firepit & chairs to sit in yard, horseshoe pit, kitchen had ocean views & was the cutest little thing. Nice, simple, clean decor & furnishings. Beautiful flowers & plants all around property. Cons: There were 2 bedrooms & one had 2 double beds & the other was on the far end of the house & looked like an addition. Originally, my kids were so excited to have that room with their own bathroom, mini fridge & TV but...the bathroom window didn't lock at all & there was no screen on it. It faced the back & there was an old storage garage which looked creepy & there was no way I was going to leave the kids in there without a locking window. Also it smelled kind of odd in there--musty I guess, and not pleasant. The toilet ran nonstop & there were little bugs in the sink, which had a broken drain stop & drained super slowly. Cobwebs on the window over the bed. The shower in there was so tiny I'm not sure my teens would have fit in it. There were two doors between that room & the bathroom so I closed those & we used the other bedroom & other 2 bathrooms. (3 total with only one that had a very good shower). Another huge con for me was the level of cleanliness. It was generally clean but there were a LOT of cabinets & storage closets that were questionable. The top of the fridge was covered in thick dust. Very dusty & just yuck. I bought some Lysol wipes to clean before I put anything in them. The house had amazing windows with beautiful ocean views but several blinds were broken & when we told office they said they were special order & they couldn't do anything about it at the time. Considering that anyone could see into the house at night through these large windows, I found that to be unacceptable. All in all, I'd go back but there definitely needs to be some work on some of these issues first.

My son, daughter-in-law and my ex were in California and wanted to visit Pismo beach. I got the cottage at the last moment in the morning of our stay and was very pleased with my choice. This would be a great place for a family to stay for an extended vacation in Pismo. Two separate bedrooms, a living room, bath and full kitchen. Close to beach access and some ocean/pier views from the property. Some units looked to have really good views. I lived in Pismo some 20 odd years ago and I still live on the central coast and I visit Pismo several times a year. I will recommend the Tides as a great place to stay. It is not fancy, but very comfortable and affordable.

Dit hotel is geheel vervallen. Badkamer is goor! Weg blijven!! Zeer gehorig hotel. Buren boven ons hoor je praten??

Good value for the money. It is an older motel that has been remodeled but still has the old feel to it. The windows are old wooden single pane that do not stay open. The rooms are spacious and the location is great.

I booked a room here but didn't realize it was not ADA compliant. The staff was incredibly kind and helped us find a new place to stay that met our accommodation needs. We took a look at the room and it was very nice.  I would have stayed and will keep this place in mind for another time.

Very nice place to stay. Updated smartly in the ways that count. Clean. Pretty. Extremely comfortable bed. Warm welcome. I enjoyed my stay. Next to the shoreline, however there is no path from the hotel to it. No biggie. This is not necessary to enjoy Pismo beach.

Stayed in one of the cottages (#112) with two families. We had plenty of room and the kitchen was great to allow to save some money. Great views and for the most part the cottage was freshly renovated. The complaints that I have is the both the carpet and floors were filthy. Immediately after cleaning the kids feet their feet were black. The only other complaint was the access to the beach is a bit of a walk. The stairs that would be an easy access to the beach has been closed by the county because of the unsafe conditions. I will have to say they were very customer focused and let us know immediately after check out that we left some items in the cottage. Probably the first time having a hotel call about items left.

We went to Pismo Beach for the Car Show on Father's Day weekend. Place was packed. The Tides Oceanview Inn did have decent prices. The staff is great and very helpful. Not much to be said about the room but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Looked at the "Cottages" and the big one looks good. The regular rooms though have tiny bathrooms that need some updating. No towel racks at all and in our bathroom there wasn't even a hook on the door. Tiny, tiny shower. But like I said, it was ok for the price we paid. In a good location, we were able to walk to pier and into town. Still had a great time!!

The Tides is a nice hotel with reasonable rates. It is located right on the cliffs in Pismo Beach overlooking the ocean. Although the hotel is old, it has been well kept with nicely appointed rooms. If available, ask for room 118 (2 queen beds) or 117 (1 King bed) These 2 rooms each have a ocean view wood deck that is so cute. I enjoyed sitting out on the deck with coffee & newspaper in the morning. All the hotel staff were friendly & courteous. The Manager was so accommodating in regards to our requests. The Sunday morning Desk Clerk handled our checkout quickly. She really provided excellent customer service.

It's been about a year but when we stayed here, we loved it. Yes there is no ac as many complainers have pointed out but the rooms are clean, the customer service was phenomenal, the ocean view cottage was amazing and quite roomy with huge closets. Like with anything you can find something wrong or you can enjoy what beauty is infront of you.  I definitely want to go back soon because I live in the valley and this +100 degree weather is killing me. I've attached my pictures just to show their pictures aren't much different than mine. Oh and when we asked for a fan because my spouse can't sleep without one, someone brought it to us at 10pm. Be nice and you get further in life.

The only reason this hotel got one star is because Yelp won't allow zero stars. The worst hotel ever. Beware. I usually do not write on Yelp pages but feel bad about how misleading the hotel pictures are online. Other misleading information falsifies this hotel and sets ridiculous expectations. THIS HOTEL SHOULD BE PRICED AT $49 A NIGHT or priced equivalent to Motel 6 or Super 8. Issues -no AC (fine but Windows don't open) -very loud with highway directly behind -super thin walls -rock hard bed -no water pressure or hot water -carpet tiles laid over concrete -one light -microwave from the 1960s Bottom line, the hotel would be over priced if it's anything over $80. Lets just say we walked in and immediately walked out.

I am pretty sure all rooms have a view, we were in a small room with a nice bed and view. Waking up to the sound of crashing waves is something quite spectacular. Definitely worth staying and a good distance for LA to SF if you're doing the classic coastal drive. Staff left a few goodies in our room which was nice and the place was clean. Would have liked more time there!

ok. here we go..... i've been staying at the tides for about 30 years now.... dating back to when the property owner lived in the front unit, and Monty managed the desk.... it had an old run down funky feeling, and it was cheap for the view.... i'd always ended up staying in room 118, which has the best view of anyplace you'll ever stay at. there was a rickety old staircase that led down the cliffs to the beach. all was perfect. wouldn't have even considered staying anywhere else in pismo. it's been 9 years since i stayed there, and when business had me needing to be near pismo, i called to make a reservation.... place got sold. no more property owner with cookies, no more monty. then i got the price for two nights, one of which was friday night, starting memorial day weekend. holy shit! $540. i was ASSURED that all of the units had been EXTENSIVELY remodeled, and the rate was appropriate for the area, and calendar. ok, memorial day weekend, i get it. especially as there were NO rooms available anywhere nearby. i called back, and took the room for two nights. note to the current owner. "extensively remodeled" is not a new shower curtain, and a shitty paint job, and carpet tiles. the sink in 118 is a 1930 vintage, with ceramic spigot,  and the water does not flow out of it. it drizzles down the face of the basin, and disappears down the overflow. to brush your teeth, it's best to take a shower and bring your toothbrush, or scoop water from the face of the basin like a demented hamster trying to splash water in it's mouth. it was bad enough, and i was pissed enough at the misrepresentation of the property, friday when we were nearby, ended up getting a second room at Sycamore, for $400 for the night, got our stuff, and just left. they suckered us for $500 for two nights. if you make a reservation, they can sucker you as well. Room 118 has an awesome view. don't plan on brushing your teeth.

  • May 20, 2016 by Robyn C

This is my second stay and review. Stayed in cottage 118 this time which has incredible views! The room however is dated and not too comfortable. It was very musty smelling at first and I almost asked to switch rooms but instead I bought a plug in freshener and opened the windows. Much better. The bathroom sink (single only) didn't work at all so we used the bathtub to brush teeth etc. But again - those views and the sound of the ocean really is fantastic. I don't think I would recommend this room at full price but with a discount it might be just the ticket.

Beautiful looking motel from the outside. I stayed here because they cater to dogs (with a long, long list of rules and regulations to be signed, too bad these weren't given for guests) The room was nice, even though renovated, it was old. The walls in this motel are made of tissue paper and so are the ceilings. I had the pleasure of enjoying my neighbors telephone conversations (I could even hear the one on the other end of the receiver) and my other neighbor and their loud tv and crying child. Upstairs sounded like a stampede of wild bison which left me with turning my tv uncomfortably loud or putting on my headphones. The person at the front desk was very friendly and courteous and when arriving also gave a nice little basket with goodies for my pet and me. The price was a little high given that they also charged $40 for my pup. The location is beautiful with easy access to Pismo Beach's thriving and quaint downtown. This place is built for tourists who don't mind noise and families. Next time I will try to drive further to stay at a much quieter place.

The Pros: The office staff were really nice; bed wasn't bad; shower pressure was great (small shower); if you just need a place to sleep and don't have a need for many amenities, you might find this okay The Cons: had to adjust the blinds on the windows to have privacy(gaps between the blinds); privacy film on bathroom window could see through; one nightstand & you needed to squeeze between the wall & bed on one side or crawl over to get to the other side; not many plugs; tv remote didn't work; (a continental breakfast would have been nice with fresh coffee instead of a Keurig in the room, just a suggestion) We may have been able to overlook some of these things, but when we came back from our excursions during the day, we noticed that our 'do not disturb' placard was put back with the 'need service' out...we walked in & nothing seemed touched until I walked in the bathroom & noticed that some of the used towels had been stacked at one end of the sink, my husband asked the person at the desk about it and was told that it was their policy that if a placard was on the ground, they are to go in & empty the trash & put fresh towels in the bathroom & not to change the bed if there's anything on it. We did notice that the trash had been emptied, but no fresh towels, just the used ones put at the end of the sink (one which had been on a bag I had on the sink), it just made us feel uncomfortable. We would not recommend this place if you're getting away for the weekend and want a nice stay.

We recently spent two nights at The Tides Oceanview Inn and Cottages. We were in one of the two bedroom cottages. While clean, the cottage is quite dated in regards to decor and amenities. It is not a place I would want to hang out in. But, given that, I must say the ocean view from the lawn area in front of the cottage with two Adirondack chairs is spectacular. This is not your modern cookie-cutter inn. It is a real throwback to the early days of travel. The reception staff is friendly and the price is very reasonable for the area. I am not sure if I would return, but I keep thinking of the view and how unique and funky this place is. I will give it some extra merit points for that.

  • May 06, 2016 by Tana S.

We stopped here and got a room. It was very small. There was no closet, no washcloths, and the television didn't work. The front desk said they had no one on site to handle it. We called in the morning. A man came and worked on the tv. It was "loading" as we left for the day. When we came back that evening, no t.v.! I called and they said someone would be right there. No one ever showed up! We paid 150.00 a night. Big disappointment! I think our room was a maintenance closet with a bathroom. Bad choice!

  • May 05, 2016 by ChristinaRose63

Great views from the property, the hotel is walking distance to town along the beach. The room is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. A nice little welcome basket of snacks on arrival. Cute room at a reasonable price, very clean and comfortable.

  • May 01, 2016 by Jeff B.

Nice little hotel almost on the beach. Room was clean, smelled nice, and they gave us complimentary dog cookies and water bowls. Had a nice little grassy area right outside our room and got to hear and see the ocean threw the night. The only complaint I could have is the lack of beach access, but aside from that, I will be staying here again. Any hotel that is ok with my travel companion, and makes so you never know there may have been a dog in the room before, has my vote!

  • Apr 28, 2016 by Ken C

Arriving, ny concern was the highway noise - 101 is 100-feet way. But I had a restful night, and the bed was excellent. Space heater provided just enough warmth for the breezy cool outside, and the shower was functional with plenty of hot water. The in-room Keurig was a nice touch - the mini-refrigerator okay - ice was available outside. Didn't use the small microwave. Wifi worked well, and the small snack basket had fun nibbles. All in all, a good place to stay for a night.

  • Apr 27, 2016 by MsBlacbuttafly

This was a solo trip and I couldn't have asked for better hotel to suite my needs. The King size room was huge and the view was beautiful. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The room was clean well stocked and offered an affordable rate to stay right near the Beach. I'll be going back very soon!

  • Apr 25, 2016 by munkiemama

Great location, really cute little property, quaint and spacious room. The partial ocean view was nice, the beds were very comfortable. Even the tiny bathroom and shower were cute. A nice touch was a little basket of snacks and treats as a "thank you" for staying here. Parking is close and plentiful as well. Staff was friendly as well. The biggest turn off was when the bracelet I was wearing broke inside the room, near the bed and mini fridge. All my little beads fell off and I had to get on my hands and knees to find them. Upon searching for the beads, I found dust all over the top of the fridge, rubber bands and dirty q-tips under the bed, as well as a dried up , mummified French fry right in the corner by the fridge. This makes it pretty obvious that whomever is cleaning the rooms is not particularly thorough. There were also popcorn kernels and dirt in the loops of the carpet. We stayed in the room right at the top of the stairs behind the office, literally the second room from the right end of the building. I'd bet money that the French fry and q-tips are still there. Also, old plumbing so if you have a teenage boy, you are pretty likely to clog the toilet. Hopefully the managers will see this review and check up on the quality of cleaning that is done there. Dirty is a turn off.

Nice rooms. Clean. Very friendly staff. Dog Friendly. Smelled nice. No beach access though within walking distance to beach. Can get a little noisy. Our dog barked every time he heard someone walk by or walk over head or heard another dog bark, so that kept us and the kids up. Would not stay here again but had no complaints. Hot water in the shower, clean bedding, remodeled but the paint and drywall kinda shoddy. But for the price it served our purpose of a 1 night beach get away.

Yes, I know I'm staying near the beach, but I must say when I walked into my room, it felt like I walked into an oven. There was no A/C and the fan was putting out hot air; talk about discomfort. In any case, the room was cute, somewhat of an obstructed ocean view. Not sure if I would stay here again. Here is my rating factor, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) Food - 0 Atmosphere - 5 Selection - 5 Service - 5 Cleanliness - 5 Overall - 5

A great place to stay. Wonderful staff and clean, simple room. Even dog treats and a water bowl for our dog! Beautiful view of the ocean and a pristine lawn and garden.

  • Mar 27, 2016 by Elisa A.

Old small rooms. They've tried to make the rooms more updated but still old. The shower is either hot or cold noting in between the Windows are old. The blinds are cheap thin blinds probably from Home Depot. The sun shines brightly into the room in the morning and maybe blackout curtains that actually fit the Windows would be better.  They do leave you a nice little snack basket and the toiletries are from bath & body works but still does not make up for the expensive nightly rate.  There is no beach access but a couple of streets over there is beach access to an area of the beach where there is not many people. This hotel is located walking distance to downtown. The staff is nice but the 4 pm check in sucks especially when your room isn't ready at 4 pm. The only views we had was the parking lot of the hotel next door or the hotels parking lot. Horrible views nothing what's shown on the website.

  • Mar 25, 2016 by Tawnie

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable. There was a lawn and other non-paved areas just steps away from the room to walk my dog. It was a short walk into town. I will definitely go back!

  • Mar 18, 2016 by Susan A.

I love this place. Didn't have any idea what to expect but they accept dogs so I was in. Well it's beautiful. We stayed in a cottage room and it was lovely. Treats and water for us and the dog! Views are beautiful. I do wish there was beach access but you can go to the beach right down the road. I have reserved a few more weekends here. It's really great and so dog friendly - clean nice rooms too not yucky rooms I've seen at some other reasonably priced canine friendly places. Highly recommend for a great weekend getaway!

  • Mar 15, 2016 by Randy B

We stayed in room 111 and had a pretty decent ocean view. The room was bright, airy, and clean, and the staff was friendly. This is a good budget hotel -- not a 5-star luxury retreat, but then again, for $100 bucks at the coast, I didn't expect the moon and stars, and was quite pleased with the value we received. They also have cabins/cottages that looked pretty nice.

  • Mar 13, 2016 by Gia V.

Tides Inn was clean and had a microwave, refrig and a Keurig machine. That's cool!! The lady that checked us in was really nice and suggested somewhere for dinner. All was good till we had a small issue with the shower which was promptly taken care of by housekeeping management. Made us feel more than welcomed. Would recommend the hotel ~ enjoyed the grunion run too! Thank Tides Inn and cottages for the stay!

  • Feb 29, 2016 by Robyn C

Loved this place - didn't know what to expect, traveling with my dog (large dog) but this little cottage room was perfect. The only complaint I had was the cottage up front was very noisy until about 1AM but once I called the front desk, things quieted down. This is a lovely place and I've already booked two more weekend getaways here! Highly recommend especially if traveling with your canine companion! : )

  • Feb 28, 2016 by Brianna R.

This was my first time staying here and I'd say for the price it was pretty decent. There is no air conditioning, so that is a downer, we got in the room was very stuffy. They do provide a fan which helped, but the fan was very cheap and would come apart when you moved it. Rooms are very bright as there are no curtains and the windows have no screens. Other than that, I'd say it was good. They give you a little basket of goodies for your stay which is a nice touch. I'd stay here again.

  • Feb 15, 2016 by CourtneyyAnnn

The reason we choose to stay at this hotel was because they are dog friendly, which was awesome. Upon check in we were given room 108, which turned out to be the worst room we could have gotten. It is right under the stairs, so we were woken up everytime someone walked up or down. It is also right next to the maintenance room where all of the cleaning supplies are kept, which resulted in housekeeping placing their cleaning cart right in front of our room door for over an hour which woke us up and really bothered our dogs. I called and asked if we could be moved to another room (since we were staying 2 nights) but were told they were full and nothing could be done. The woman said she would move the cleaning cart and tell housekeeping to be more quiet, but the next morning the exact same thing happened except for the cart was in front of our room for even longer. The room itself was very small, which I expected from reading other reviews and was okay with. The TV was really fuzzy so we couldn't watch it. I felt like the room was pretty clean until I realized one of the walls in the bathroom had pubic hair all over it (see pictures). You have to walk 2 blocks for beach access, which isn't far at all so we were okay with it. Don't expect to have any kind of view unless you get the 1 King ocean view room. Overall I don't think it was worth $450 for 2 nights. Next time we might just camp on the beach.

  • Feb 03, 2016 by Cailen W

We stayed in one of the cottages and were incredibly impressed with the staff, the ocean view from the kitchen, the clean rooms, and the large open amount of space we were able to have! It was perfect for myself and a couple close friends as we had more than enough space, each room was comfortable with large beds, and it was a quick drive to the downtown area. The staff at this hotel is extremely helpful as well, in fact when we couldn't figure out how to work the fire pits next to our room Chris at the front desk readily stepped over to help us without hesitation. Overall, it was a great evening spent looking over the ocean, having smores at the firepit, and enjoying the helpful and friendly staff. It was even better than a home away from home! We can't wait to come back!

  • Feb 01, 2016 by Sam G

My girlfriend and I reserved one of the side cottages, and it was great! We had an ocean view, and all the privacy we could want because we didn't share any walls with other residents. The firepits were great at night, listening to the waves and cooking smores. Couldn't have asked for much better of a night!

  • Jan 07, 2016 by Nathalie M

Spent 2 nights in room 210, had a gorgeous view! Amelia at the front desk was very helpful, will be back for sure! quick drive away from the town and the pier, the room was very clean, and the bed was very comfortable.

  • Dec 27, 2015 by Connor M.

This hotel is a joke. We have been here for the past 2 nights and the power has gone out and the other rooms have power if you look out the window. The problem is its December so there is no heat. I will never recommend this hotel again and they had to move us to a another hotel down the road. If it wasn't December it wouldn't be bad but it's 39oF outside right now.

For the price and location you cant beat it. The view from the property is amazing. Front Desk Emily, Thank you for the late check out. General Manager gave me a great deal for my 2 days. all smiles from the staff. Lets just say "its a NO Worries, relaxing hotel" . Thank you Tides for giving me a place to stay for a cheap price at a beautiful location....Natalie

  • Dec 07, 2015 by Lucy P.

The view from the hotel is nice however there is no direct access to the beach. This should be advertised clearly. Emily is my only reason for giving them stars. She was friendly, professional and a great communicator. Emily deserves actually 5 stars! The room itself was clean however not what I expected. There is no privacy at all, you can see through and in between the blinds, the bed was uncomfortable, the window in the bathroom wouldn't close and we had to put a towel on the window for privacy. The hotel needs to make adjustments and invest in blackout curtains, better beds and repairs. If you are going to charge  $$$$ you need to supply the appropriate accommodations.

  • Nov 30, 2015 by Gayle R.

Pretty pleased with our accommodations.  Most of all it's very clean and quiet.  I would stay here again in a heart beat based on our room.  Nothing fancy, but staff very pleasant and view and location for the price is worth it to us. Helps they are dog friendly.

  • Nov 30, 2015 by ihumpdorks

The hotel was average. Room was alright. The view was ok. The staff was super friendly and nice. No beach access...that was a bummer. The room was not that clean, but it worked. Not much to say. We slept, watched a little tv, but spent most of the time out of the room. Might or might not stay there again. Depends on availability of nearby hotels and cost.

  • Nov 26, 2015 by Jacqui L

This looks like a nice hotel and the staff are quite nice, but they overcharged me (charged a different rate than the one listed online for that day and the one I thought I had booked), put us in a room with "known issues" despite being nowhere near full. there is a tiny little corner with a desk in it - no light on that desk, so to do any work you would need a flashlight! there is a tiny little shower with the shower head so far to the side that you basically have to wash one arm at a time or step out of the shower to get the shower spray to reach you and there is no hope of washing hair! There is a tiny little heater (no AC) that is woefully inadequate so the room in November was freezing all night. there is a light out front and behind the room that is super bright and on all night and the window shades don't actually block it, so it never really gets dark in the room. Not much to recommend it - the location is nice, though there are better hotels nearby. The price would have been good if I hadn't been overcharged by $30. and the lack of lighting in the room and the un-usable shower (only one of us even attempted a shower, the rest waited for a new hotel), make it really not worth it. the cottages might be better, I don't really know.... When I told the staff that our room had major issues they told me they knew and others had also complained. so, then why were we put in that room when tons of other rooms were open???? they also told me that the entire hotel is a "tear down" and will be gone in a year. wish I had known that before I booked! Next time I am in Pismo, I will definitely stay somewhere else.

First time vacationing in the area. The Tides have nice, quiet, intimate rooms. Pretty cool balcony outside of 2nd floor room! Definitely happy with the choice of staying here! Prices were very reasonable we will be back!

  • Oct 29, 2015 by T M

Location is by the beach, but there isn't direct beach access, you have to walk around to the next block. The rooms have been almost renovated, one part is quite nice and well done, but at least in the room we stayed in they hadn't got to the bathroom yet. The bathroom was functional, just old. It was clean, some of the rooms have a nice ocean view, staff were great. It's just that it's not quite there yet, when they finish it off it will be quite nice. Only a couple of mins drive into town or you could walk it in 20 minutes.

  • Oct 20, 2015 by Alan B

We had the King bed Ocean view room and this really had the "WOW" factor. Worth every penny with clean room and great facilities. Easy walking distance to the beach with safe bathing. A 5 minute drive to downtown and good restaurants. Great value for money.

Needed a place to stay on our drive down the coast of California. Rooms were spacious but bathroom was tiny. No air conditioning. Lots of road noise in rooms as very close to the highway. Looks over the beach but no actual beach access from hotel.

We stayed in a standalone cottage, 5 people in a 2-bed suite with kitchen, living room and only one bathroom. It was ok for a one-night stay. Fully equipped with anemities you would need. No A/C but when we were there the weather was great so it was just right. Furniture is quite old but it's a cottage. No access to the beach but it's perfect to look at it from afar. We still feel the sea breeze. It's a small scale accommodation so I didn't expect too much. We paid 200+ for that night which I think it's a bit pricy.

We’ve had some great experiences with renovated and updated mid century motels (most recently in Palm Springs and San Diego). We were hoping that our stay at The Tides would be another…it was not. The motel’s fabulous website photos and cool exteriors draw you in while the rooms let you down. Here is our experience: The room had no AC. The cheap box fan provided to us was so noisy that you could not have a conversation within the room. We ended up keeping the windows open and heard the traffic on Hwy 101 all night long. No receptacle for the coffee maker (does one really need to unplug the frig to make coffee?) Unlike the website photo, there were no lights in the kitchen area (I used a flashlight to make coffee in the morning). Night stand lamp and alarm clock were unplugged (the nearest receptacle was behind the headboard and not accessible). Luggage storage was inside a closet that had a door that could not be fully opened (see photo). No screen on bathroom window caused bugs to fly inside our room. No towel rods or rings in bathroom. No table to sit or eat at (with plenty of room for one by the front window). The cheap carpet (without padding) was worn. Railing that is outside room was wobbly and seemed dangerous. Access to beach from motel is closed. With all the little things that were wrong with our room, I can hardly believe that this motel is owned by a large hotel group. At least, not one that is looking for repeat business. At close to $175+/night, this was not an experience that we want to repeat. On a positive note, the people working the front counter were friendly.

Heerlijke bedden!!

My family has been coming to the Tides at least once a year for the last 8 years - it has always been one of our favorite destinations. This review is about our first (and last) time there after the new ownership took over. Under previous ownership, there was a certain independent charm to the Tides - it wasn't the cleanest place or the best managed, but it was nice and solid and an affordable way to stay right on the coast with million dollar views.  We were intrigued with the new ownership, because we figured with the much higher prices, there would be significant improvements - sadly, that was not our experience. The biggest problem was that they closed the beach access - you have to now walk all the way to a neighboring hotel to be able to access the beach, which was a deal breaker for us not going back. Next - there isn't air conditioning, which probably isn't out of the ordinary in the area, but we were there when it was quite warm outside during the day but cool at night, However, in the cottage it was almost unbearably hot all day and night b/c in the cottage we were in (#113) most of the windows weren't able to open or if they did no more than a few inches.  A couple windows were able to open more but they did not have any screens so the insects would fly into our rooms.    Our cottage was just so so hot day and night. The woman at the front desk was SO NICE and SO ACCOMMODATING and when we asked for a fan, she gave us her fan at the front desk, which was just so nice, but ultimately still ineffective, we had one fan for three rooms.  So we put the fan in the front bedroom, since all the windows in that room could not open except one that could open 3 inches. The individual rooms seem like they may have been updated really nicely, but the cottages largely look exactly the same, with just new carpet and new paint. The bathrooms in the cottages are tiny tiny tiny with no counter space at all.  The mattresses in the cottages need to be replaced, they were very soft and there weren't very many towels provided and the pillows were extremely hard. This is all only a big deal because of the cost - we stayed in the off season, which wasn't too atrocious, but we noticed that the cottages start at $375 to $500 / night in the summer, which is far too much. If they are able to restore beach access, install air conditioning or ceiling fans in each room or provide more fans in the cottages and adjust the prices, we would definitely return, but as of now, we will be looking elsewhere.

So I've had my yelp account for two years but I have only used it to look at reviews.. So here's to my first review ever ! My boyfriend and I wanted to go to our favorite spot -Pismo beach but did not want to leave our furry friend behind . I was looking up rates for dog friendly places but most places averaged a 200 per night stay . We wanted to stay two nights so it was a bit too expensive for us . We would rather spend the extra cash on food or activities . Anyway I saw this place online but we were hesitant because of the poor reviews . We decided to go for it anyway with no expectations . We booked through Hotwire ~$92 per night plus 40 dollar pet fee for both nights . We arrived. First thing that I noticed was how nice the rooms were . Nicely painted ... Clean. Bathroom was small like how others stated but no big deal. We did hear footsteps of people above us .. But also no big deal I slept through the night ! (And so did my furry friend coco) I had no expectations but I was pleasantly surprised . The staff were so friendly . It's a nice 10 minute walk to the beach and yes there is no A/C but we didn't need it . We asked for a fan and they provided it . And note that it was one of the hottest days of the year that we stayed . It was about 107 degrees the day we stayed . But then again, you're not supposed to stay in your room all day right ? We spent al day on the nice beach . Don't let the bad reviews discourage you !! We loved it and we will definitely be back . Thank you Tides Oceanview for making our stay a stay to remember forever . THANK YOU !

No fans. No air conditioning. No sound proofing. No sugar/whitener/cups/spoons. No functioning TV remote(modern whinge I know...I grew up in the 70's). No one on staff who cared. Waited 15 mins in reception listening to the staff member trying to up sell an inquiry. Walked out frustrated. Mould in bathroom and lord only knows what was growing on the intake side of the hairdryer. Have photos if anyone is curious. They left a welcome basket of fruit (2apples) and small waters. Nice touch. 1 Apple was visibly rotten and other snacks out of date. Although not a cheap location, spend a bit more and stay elsewhere. If you choose to risk it and stay here, make sure no one is in the shower if the toilet gets flushed. For the price...not good value

We stayed here for one night whilst driving up PCH - hotel was great value for money, clean and staff we're eally helpful. Whilst no complaints about the hotel We were slightly disappointed there was no access to the beach - you have to go through the hotel next door and the steps are very steep. Pismo Beachitself was disappointing!

A Very overpriced experience for a substandard property. Very busy weekend and GM not on property to assist with problems which were many. Beautiful beach area and staff did a good job of recommending local restaurants that captured the flavor of the area - just too bad we had to return to this hotel afterwards.

  • Sep 15, 2015 by Terry H

We stayed one night driving up PCH to San Francisco from LA. Had a fan as no AC. Hotel fine. Pismo not so good. Not one bar near sea where we could sit out in sun. One had a patio but it was locked up cos they said it was "wet" nice beach dull town . However we did have a great pizza at a restaurant on the corner of the Main Street

Rooms are very large and comfortable. The welcome basket and was a refreshing serprise. Stayed for only one short night. Try to avoid uper rooms on the east side of the building. They are very noisy 24H from road no' 1...

  • Aug 29, 2015 by JILL L

The room was large and clean. We had a good one night stay. I don't think that many of the motels near the water have air conditioning. We had a view of the ocean from the room over the office. We had a large screen TV and they supplied snacks.

  • Aug 28, 2015 by KJ275

The room is very large and beds comfy....but there is no air conditioner! Thought we would be escaping the Central Valley heat but this is incredible. Also only one lamp in the room so we're having to share the light to read. For the cost per night, I expected so much more.

  • Aug 24, 2015 by rednblackexile

We booked 2 rooms as an overnight stopover whilst driving down the coast. At $200+ per room per night I could be forgiven for thinking it might rise above a basic motel, but it doesn't. The pictures all show the motel's proximity to the beach, of course - what they don't show you is the proximity to the 101, which was very noisy until quite late in the evening. Beach access is, bizarrely, via the deck of the motel next door - we walked through a wedding reception to get there. Free wifi? Let's just say you get what you pay for. The rooms were basic and bathrooms very small, but on the plus side were clean and comfortable. We slept well once the traffic subsided, then were happy to be on our way to our rented apartment in Santa Monica - the same cost but about 20x the size....

  • Aug 19, 2015 by Robin F

while the hotel looked quaint and low-key, we had no idea that we would pay $200+ for a room with: 1. no a/c 2. could not close / secure windows 3. the smallest shower ever 4. only 1 functional light 5. right next to the 101 so very noisy 6. paper thin walls and ceiling so no privacy or quiet Would not go again.

  • Aug 18, 2015 by Sjaak B

We rented a cottage with two bedrooms. The cottage was very clean and recently compleet refurbished. We were missing some things in our kitchen equipment and we got great service from Justine from the reception who helped us with paper plates and plastic glasses and the next morning we received all the equipment we needed. Great service. When we left, Justine helped us again by printing our boarding passes.

It looked good on line, got good reviews on TA and its well deserved, Beautiful accomodation, gardens and amazing views. 2 minutes to the beach and easy walking distance to some nice bars and restaurants nearby. Great staff, very helpful and most of all good value for money. Clean, safe, plenty space and peaceful. Go Stay! edinstu.

  • Aug 10, 2015 by rose472

We arrived earlier than normal check in but checked with the desk anyway. They were very helpful! The view was fabulous and the room was very nice and secluded. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the magnificent view from our porch. The young girl at the front desk suggested a pizza place that delivered and so we didn't even need to go out. Everyone there was so helpful and the room was nice and clean. We will definitely return!

  • Aug 08, 2015 by Bonnie S

Very nice clean rooms, immediate access to the beach, we loved staying there and will do it again. The prices for their location are unbelievable. We found the service to be above average and the people very friendly and welcoming.

  • Aug 07, 2015 by Gillybean27

Excellent large room that was extremely clean and had partial sea-views. Coffee machine was great and the bed was very comfy with fresh clean linen. The lady on the front desk was helpful and polite when we checked in, we asked if there was a steakhouse nearby, she recommended Mclintocks, I would highly recommend it the food and atmosphere was fabulous. The only negatives about the hotel were the walls were thin so we heard the noisy children shouting next door and the shower didn't drain away very quickly so I ended up standing in about 3" of water. Wish I'd booked more than 1 night there, a great place to stay.

  • Jul 29, 2015 by Charmaine R.

Worse hotel experience I've had. We were suppose to stay in room 106 with 2 queen beds since 4 of us needed a room but they gave our room to someone else with a similar last name. We ended staying in room 209 instead with only 1 king bed and was given a twin air matress. The matress given kept losing air throughout the night, the tv took hours to update, the bedside lamp did not work properly, and the bathroom shower was disgusting. The walls are paper thin, we kept hearing people walk to and from the balcony, and the windows in the room and bathroom kept falling due to nothing to keep them up; we used the hotel trash can to keep the window ajar. Save your money and don't come to this hotel.

Review of Tides Oceanview Inn We booked two rooms at this renovated motel during a July 2015 weekend. There is a great deal of variation amongst the rooms so I’d suggest you first look at the room to which you are assigned. We initially were in Room 111 which has an ocean view; however, the king-size bed just barely fits into the room so one side is jammed against the wall; access and egress required more agility than we possess. So we switched to room 105 which is in the main multistory section. Unfortunately, there were several aspects of this room that made the overall experience uncomfortable. First, the shower produced only a weak dribble of water; I thought this might be due to an extra-low-flow showerhead because of the California drought but it was just a faulty showerhead. Maintenance was unable to fix it. The room did have a micro-wave, refrigerator and in-room coffee. (But another room nearby did not have a refrigerator.) Even though the weather was in the 70s,the room was very stuffy. The small windows only open about 10 inches and there is no cross ventilation. Over the years the room has experienced many, many coats of paint (note the door threshold) and, once opened, the window could not be closed. An overhead fan would help with airflow. There was only one chair and only one side of the bed had a reading lamp. This is because the electrical sockets are blocked by the faux headboards! For some odd reason the phone, for which there were no instructions, displayed an unstoppable blinking red light; we finally just covered it with a towel. Room rates run around $200 a night in summer; compared to nearby properties that’s pretty cheap. But, I’d recommend staying here only if you (1)want to escape the Central California heat and (2) want to drive your car right onto Pismo Beach and(3) can tolerate the many idiosyncrasies of this place. By the way, the staff were very nice and tried to accommodate our requests. The welcome basket of apples, popcorn and bottled water was a nice touch.

Cute hotel,  very clean,  friendly staff and comfortable beds.  Downside no AC I had to run around town to buy fans,  which I later saw them loaning some out.  No beach access have to go through neighboring hotel,  might want to update the ad.  No pool or shared pool with other hotels.  It covered the basics.  Although not a bad experience I am not willing to stay again.

  • Jul 20, 2015 by doriesmith

The location is wonderful. Short walk for beach access. Our family of four stayed in an oceanview cottage probably built in the 40's or 50's. It had two bedrooms, kitchen, living room and one small bathroom. Very clean. I thought it was charming. The beds were comfortable and the view was outstanding. We saw both whales and dolphins during our visit. There was a Keurig in the kitchen with coffee and tea provided. My recommendation would be for management to provide fans (most hotels along the coast do not have A/C) and more power strips as cell phones, etc. weren't even thought of when the cottage was built and there is a lack of electrical outlets. I would let vacationers know ahead of time to bring their own pots, pans, dishes, glassware, and utensils for use in the kitchen. For future renovations, I would consider a smaller kitchen and a larger updated bathroom. New windows and/or window screens would be great. Otherwise, this is a fantastic place to stay and we will stay again.

Overall the room was ok. They had just shampooed the carpets and they were not completely dry when we checked in at 4:00.We tried to check in earlier but couldn't because of wet carpets. No air conditioning so it was a lil humid in the room. Only one nightstand had a lamp. No towel racks...No beach access. For what we paid we were a lil disappointed in the room. They did have a Keurig coffee machine and the room was clean.

  • Jul 03, 2015 by Jim B.

This place emits that 50's era roadside motel vibe. The rooms are mostly updated, flat screen TVs, coffee makers, faux finishes and the like. The only place I'd knock it on was the noise factor. Besides the road noise the walls and ceilings seem very thin. That said this place is close to the beach and you can hear the surf from ur room.

  • Jul 03, 2015 by Dan5638

un posto molto bello giusto in fronte al mare. camere pulite e spazioseuna vista meravigliosa sul mare con possibilità di scendere alla spiaggia. rapporto qualkità prezzo ottimo. a beautiful spot mid way between LA and San Francisco. place is beautiful and rooms are clean and very nice, ratio quality/price excellent.

  • Jun 30, 2015 by Babie2013

Overall the room was OK. It was very small and I didn't like how the bed was right next to the walkway window. I requested a second floor room bc I had heard the sound proofing was not great. We ended up getting a 1st floor room bc they didn't have any others available. When we got in the room we discovered the door had no upper deadbolt and with a 2 year old that likes to open things in his reach.. the room was just unsafe. I mean what room doesn't have an upper lock?!? The fridge did not work well, even after adjusting the thermostat ( I lost food that we had purchased and kept in room, so that was nice waste of money we to throw out) . The room we were in was right next to the vending machine so u couldn't even Crack the one little window we had to get some fresh air with out neighbors looking inside our room. It was very creepy. The shower was small and just looked unclean and old. The rest of the bathroom was decent except the toilet rocks everytime u sit on it (I was afraid it was going to break it and I'm a 120lbs woman). We tried sleeping but the it's hard to do when the outside lights light up ur room like it's daytime. The window curtain issue became particularly fun at sunrise! So much for sleeping in past sun up on vacation! Overall the room was liveable if u can get passed no air-conditioning and horrible shades. Thank goodness it was only for one night. I'm not one to give bad reviews but I felt for what I paid I got swindled. I would not recommend this hotel for a relaxing vacation. Oh I almost forgot... to top it off... Yes technically u can see the ocean if u walk out of ur room but there is no beach access unless u walk a block through their sisters hotel. I mean they had access but they have the gates locked. Overall I was disappointed and wished it could have been better. I had high hopes and the stay did not meet their own standards (nor the pictures).

Очень понравился отель!!! Приветливый персонал, классный небольшой номер с видом на океан. Удобное месторасположение. В пешей доступности кафе и рестораны. Ну и пляж разумеется. Бесплатная парковка. Очень рекомендую!!!

We only had one night in Pismo Beach and couldn't have picked a lovelier spot to spend it. These vintage cottages and motel were set away enough from town that they were quiet but walkable to downtown Pismo. The beds were comfortable and the cottage easily accommodated six. Our thoughts to make it better -- more lamps (we prefer lamps to overhead lights) and kitchen provisioning (plates, cookware, etc) or a notice that these are needed for longer stays. We would plan a longer return visit to The Tides.

  • Jun 12, 2015 by Emma W

We had been on the road all day, tired, hungry and to be honest all a bit ratty. We were on our way up the coast to th next town when we pulled off and into here instead. So glad we dudm it was one of the best motels we stated in during our 14 nights in the road. The reception staff were, polite, helpful and genuinely nice to deal with. The room was lovely, clean, spacious with a partial sea view. It was a little more then we planned to pay but we didn't care it was great. There is no direct route to the beach, get directions, follow the signs through the next door hotel (public access) and check out the sunset, we relaxed and felt so much better. Dinner and breakfast at the well recommended Shell cafe, they had a band on for the evening which was a perfect setting for our evening.

  • Jun 03, 2015 by lascola

This little motel, probably built in the 1950's, has been lovingly refurbished and sits on a prime spot overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately there is no beach access, although one guest told us that there was access by walking around to the hotel next door. Room was spotless, we had a room with no view. The room was very small and we were awakened by children upstairs running around and the sound of rolling suitcases. I suspect that if one was able to get one of the cottages, it would have been quite. Dogs allowed with extra forty dollar charge. Nice outdoor area with pretty adirondack chairs. Little basket with water and snacks provided. Satellites TV and free internet. We got the room for 94 dollars plus 40 for the dog on a Monday night. Would have liked stand for our suitcase, and blackout shades for window.

  • May 30, 2015 by S. M.

I really liked staying here. The beds were more comfortable than some of the high end hotels I have stayed in. The location is great; close to downtown, the beach and restaurants.  It looks like there used to be beach access from the hotel but the gate is locked now, which is annoying. The room was very clean. Newer TV, keurig coffee maker and Bath and Body Works soap.  Very nice! I would absolutely stay here again Only thing more I would want is beach access.

  • May 30, 2015 by Beth L.

.The bedrooms and bathroom are great and the living room has lots of space,  plus three TVs in all. But when we opened a window it fell down and the glass broke. No towel bars in the bath, plus barely lukewarm water...a real shower shocker! The kitchen has absolutely nothing in it... No utensils no cookware no dishware although a stove and refrigerator are provided along with a microwave. it has a single serving coffee pot only, not a 12 Cup pot. I would not be so concerned except any place that offers a full kitchen should certainly provide utensils dishware and cookware for the cupboards. Especially for over 250 a night. We brought a huge ice chest full of food and now can do little to nothing with it... Totally blows the budget. their advertisement does not specify this gaping lack. They are very nice people however and told us they are new owners... Let's hope they equip their kitchens in the future.

If you have never been to Pismo Beach, California, this would be a "for sure" stop to spend a night or two. Renovated rooms and cottages at this desirable oceanfront location, close to restaurants, the beach and downtown Pismo. Charming, and relaxing, with PLENTY of PARKING....It has the feel of old Pismo, with today's renovations! AND IF YOU HAVE BEEN TO PISMO BEACH, but haven't stayed here lately, book a room or two...it's great for family get together's, reunions, or a romantic night for two----ocean front!

Stayed for one night. The check in was smooth, the room ere nice and clean, very clean. We also got some welcoming, greeting gifts. Overall excelent.

  • May 14, 2015 by Cynthia H

Rode up to this quaint hotel at 10:48pm, which was great, because the office closes at 11:pm and it would have involved going to a sister property nearby to get a key, and after a long drive...who needs that? We were assigned to the cottage that sets by itself on the south side of the property. It didn't look like much from the outside, but we were all pleasantly surprised by the interior. Light, bright, updated, clean, neat and in great condition for an old property. Our cottage had a living room with tv, a table for two with chairs, and an awesome picture window with a great ocean view The kitchen was ready for business, but that wasn't the kind of trip that I was taking this weekend! Small bathroom, but everything worked and there was a lot of room for all of our things due to the built-ins. There were two good sized bedrooms with king size beds, I think. Again, lots of storage space in the bedrooms and each bedroom had a television. If we stayed had brought surfboards, sand toys, chairs, coolers, etc...there would be PLENTY of room for all of that stuff in this cottage. We had a nice 1/2 mile walk to the Cinnamon Roll place for breakfast, and also had a GREAT meal at The Honeymoon Cafe. (Really good food there!) There is a lot to do nearby, within walking distance. As nice as the beach view was, we couldn't find a way down from the property, and honestly, it was too cold while we were there mid-May. (We are spoiled southern Californians and it wasn't a sunny 75!) There also is no pool, which one of my kids noticed. There are cute lounge chairs out in front of the hotel with firepits, a nice touch. I would definitely stay here again, and if we didn't have kids, I would try the regular rooms, as well. We were here to visit friends who had recently moved and did not get to enjoy the property as much as I would have liked. I could definitely relax here. This would be a great place for a family to stay when visiting kids at the college.

  • May 11, 2015 by Jason W

We were pleasantly surprised to find this location only steps from the sand in Pismo Beach! With the hell of the courteous and professional staff, all of our needs were taken care of in a timely manner. I would highly recommend this location to any traveler.

  • May 07, 2015 by Joan B

Except for the miniature bathroom and the fact that the motel at least the room we were in, is in need of upgrades, remodeling, etc. it was still perfect. The view was amazing, the room comfortable sized although the kitchen was superfluous...the refrigerator on last leg, no microwave. Still a place to put things. Although the bathroom was teeny, tiny, miniature and all thing small, the shower was comfortable. That said, the price was perfect the décor simple and with a little work you won't be able to stay here at the price. It's an old motor court type motel and that's the charm. There's not many left like it in Pismo.

  • May 05, 2015 by CalF17

When we arrived the staff at the counter greeted us very kindly and checked us in quickly. The rooms are spacious, cozy, and very clean! Our stay was in a partial-ocean view room, and it was precisely what we were wanted. Even though it's located near the freeway it was very quiet. Overall a great hotel and great customer service! Highly recommend staying here!

  • May 04, 2015 by Sac-Aabie

Great from greetings to goodbyes. Inn and room very clean and well kept. Only one issue we were in the room below the viewing deck which wouldn't be an issue but a family allowed their children to run & jump above us in the morning disrupting our morning. Outside of that issue everything was lovely.

  • May 02, 2015 by Holly M

The view was amazing. New management just took over so they are working through some kinks but they were very ammcomidating. Cut my bill in half just beacause I had a couple issues. Nice place to relax.

  • May 02, 2015 by Jeremy J

we had a good stay here. The hotel is definitely a little older but nothing to be scared of. It was clean. We had an ocean view room with two beds in it even though it was just a couple trip. I would suggest getting the two beds because you get a much bigger room! Also, save the upgrade and don't go for an ocean view. The ocean view isn't what you're thinking.

  • May 02, 2015 by Steve M

We really enjoyed our stay at one of the Cottages with an incredible overview. The value was incredible and the room had all the amendities of home. Very simple but everything that you would want. We actually really like the location being up on the cliffs, away from the crowds closer to town, but close enough to walk in and enjoy all the shops and restaurants. We'll be back

  • May 02, 2015 by Kim Z

Room wad dirty. No a/c and no breeze even though close to the ocean. Housekeeping left our front door wide open after cleaning on the second day. Luckily nothing was missing. Way overpriced for what you get. I was embarrassed that I booked this motel for my first weekend getaway with my new boyfriend. I would never stay there again, not even for free!

  • May 02, 2015 by Wetleg1

Booked a night here on our drive from San Fran to San Diego. Terrible mistake. I'm not sure what the place is made out of, I think it's just concrete floors and the rest is plywood and plasterboard. You can hear EVERY noise that anybody makes. Last nights broken sleep noises included a pillow fight (???), tv's on low volume, people goin to the loo, footsteps (lots of), laughing, shouting, the odd scream, cars on highway 1, you name it we heard it. My Mrs is currently walking about and the floor is literally shaking. Every wall is hollow. The only good thing about it is the wifi and the room size. I can only recommend that this place is dismantled and rebuilt using a bit of decent concrete and soundproofed. Can't wait to leave :(

We travel with our dog and Pismo Beach has been a regular stop on trips down the California Coast. It has a great unofficial "dog beach," and we have found the town to be generally dog friendly. Unfortunately our regular hotel changed its policy and is no longer accepting pets. We were having difficultly finding a hotel that had a dog friendly room available so we tried The Tides. The Tides and several other hotels are on a cliff overlooking the beach and ocean. Unfortunately the Tides, unlike the other hotels did not have access to the beach so we needed to walk two short blocks to public stairs. That was not a problem. The staff of the Tides was very friendly and helpful, however the hotel and room, while clean was in a state of disrepair. When we entered the room we noticed a strong odor from cleaning supplies. I attempted to open the front window to air our the room, but the wood was so rotted that the frame detached as I attempted to open it. The bathroom was tiny and literally had no towel racks or counter space, making it difficult to use. The window coverings were blinds that did not block light, which was an issue because the hotel kept bright outdoor lights on all night. Finally, the room ended up costing $145 per night because of a $40 dog fee. The cost was equivalent to other nicer hotels in the area where we have stayed with our pet. And those hotels provided breakfast, this one did not. I gave this 2 stars because it was clean and the staff was polite, but I can't recommend this hotel to others.

Great little stop off motel on route 1. The location is great; just off the highway but still quiet, not far from San Luis Opispo, really close to the Center of Pismo and right on the beautiful beach. There's no direct beach access at the hotel, but two very short blocks over you can access the beautiful beach. It's April and there was no one else on the beach at sunset other than a couple of surfers out. The rooms are very clean. Very comfortable bed. Decent amenities (soap etc). Free wifi. New TVs. Lots of parking. Keurig coffee maker in room. The whole place looks like a cute little 50s holiday camp/motel. I will definitely be back.

First valentines day weekend with my BF - Our room bathroom door would not shut, we notified the front desk and they informed us that maintenance had already went home. I asked to be put into another room and was told rooms were all sold out. At the time there were 6 available rooms. By Saturday morning we noticed there were still 2 rooms no one had checked into. We also notified the front desk that our heater would not turn off, she basically told me I was wrong and it shuts off. It was 75 degrees in Pismo this weekend and our heater was on the entire time. We opened all windows (which one only opened 1/4 of the way) and the bathroom window was nailed shut. The room was like a Sauna, we did NOT sleep at all. It was miserable. Went to talk to the manager the next day and he didn't even come out to talk to us, he just told the front desk to give us a discount (it was a very small discount). So our very first Valentines together was horrible. We have stayed in Pismo before and it has always been an amazing experience. The customer service was so poor. To top all of this off the bed post was just laid against the wall, it wasn't even attached to the bed. So anytime you even moved it the bed the rail would hit the wall. I emailed the hotel with my concerns, It is now April 27th 2015 and still have not heard back from hotel This has been the worse experience ever....

We stayed in 202 and wasnt expecting anything spectacular because of the rates we got compared to others around the area. We arrived past 11pm so just a heads up that you will have to drive to their sister property down the street to check in. Super quick check in so it wasn't a hassle! The location was perfect for all our plans in Pismo and the room had a coffee maker, fridge to store some of our items, free bottle water, and the bathrooms amenities was a brand we recognized ( Bath and Body Works for the win). Housekeeping even rolled up the cord on the iron after we left for the day; which coming from another property's front desk showed their staff cares about their guests. We also loved our panoramic view from 202! We would come back and even try the private cottages next time!

Cute 50s cottages, freshly renovated but still retaining the original character. Clean, simple, close to good restaurants and amazing ocean view location. Ocean breeze comes via windows, there is no air conditioning. Good value for the price though.

We Arrived just as the sun was setting. Room looked a lot more run down compared to hotel website pictures. Beds were extremely comfortable but bathroom shower was very dated and cramped. My two teens refused to use shower. The drain was giant with no drain cover. I put a wash cloth over it to make me fill better. Shower head would not move so it just shot right at my face and nothing else, and being that the shower is so small you could not move to make the water hit other parts of body. Old heater was creepy not even sure if it worked. Bath goods and towels were excellent. Location was good. Was awakened at 6 AM by garbage truck and then upstairs monkeys were awakened and what sounded like wrestling for the next two hours.

Avoid room 111. You can see it in the photos. It juts out from the main building and has a little deck on top of it. And that deck is the problem. The room and deck were not designed to work well together. Any tiny little footstep on that deck resonates throughout the (very tiny) room. At 1am we were awakened by what we thought at first was an earthquake. It was a guest dragging a deckchair across our ceiling. It was that loud! This guest proceeded to thump and bump for another twenty minutes, until I went up and asked him to please tread gently. Wasn't his fault...he'd stepped outside of his room to make a phone call. Around 6am, the early-riser guests came thumping out. Needless to say, we got very little sleep that night. The next day we brought this to the attention of the front desk. When I mentioned the guest using the deck at 1am, she said "did you call the police?" Is that REALLY how you want me to handle a noisy guest?! She was fixated on this late-night guest rather than the real problem, which is that the ceiling is not designed to also be a deck floor. It's crazy how loud it was. She did move us to another room, although made a point of letting us know we weren't getting upgraded or anything like that. Not that we had asked...we just wanted a room we could actually sleep in. The new room was decent enough, although it was part of a divided house, and lacked a hair dryer or anywhere to hang a towel in the bathroom. On the plus side, the hotel looks cute from the outside, and is clean and has been recently renovated. And the front desk was never rude, just...missing the point. And for almost $200/night and not during the summer months, it seemed like we were not getting good value for money. I definitely would never stay there again. If you DO stay there, avoid room 111. And perhaps any of the ground floor rooms, come to think of it. P.S there's no beach access. The hotel used to have it, but they've fenced it off as unsafe. So you're stuck sneaking through the next-door hotel's lobby, or walking about 1/4 mile to a public entrance.

I chose this hotel for its location and its reasonable prices. The rooms are clean and the staff are friendly. There is no direct beach access but there are work arounds that can get you coastal access. The hotels location is a short walk to the towns main strip and the pier. The closest store for food and necessitates is a couple blocks away. I would stay at this hotel again.

Very nice motel and staff. the room was clean and inviting and didnt smell like the old run down motels closer to the beach. My family really loved the cleanliness of this motel. I look forward to staying here for my next visit!

stayed here for one night on our way to LA, the welcome from the man on reception was great and he gave directions to some places we could walk to for dinner. The room was lovely with an great ocean view, and they left a lovely little welcome basket with popcorn and apples. All the facilities were great, brilliant shower and super clean would definitely recommend

Unassuming little cottage and hotel rooms have their own distinct charm. Rangel was an amazing host, even allowing us to check in early as the room was ready. Great views. Clean room. Could use a microwave and a few utensils, but I believe it was so newly completed that it was still a bit under construction. Perfect location to walk in either direction to nice dining or downtown funk. There isn't a pool, but the beach is right there! Thanks for a wonderful stay - we will definitely be back.

We arrived at 1:00 and after a 5 hour drive asked for early check in. Shari said no, check in is at 4. We asked to use a restroom and she directed us all the way to the public restrooms at the pier! Luckily a manager came in and said we could check in at 2! We had no air conditioner in our room, we were given a box fan. No locks on windows. No room in shower, the shower head is in a very odd spot, leaving you pressed against the wall. There is no beach access from this location. Employees were friendly, and Shari was friendly upon checkout. The walls seem thin as we could hear sounds from adjoining rooms on Friday night. Pismo Beach is beautiful. This room rate is very good, you might want to spend a little more to get more amenities.

They are clearly updated the entire property. There were new railings, everything looked freshly painted inside the room. New linens, new tv, nice dresser, clean carpets. Nothing looked worn, so everything might have been new or just very well taken care of. I loved having the windows allow the ocean breeze to come in. Dorm size refrigerator and snacks was a nice surprise. Office staff very friendly. I would definitely recommend the second story with the view.

We were on a south-to-north coastal drive and dropped in without a reservation. The staff was very freindly and offered us the internet rate as drop in customers. The room was fine - clean and recently updated - though it is close to hiway 1 so there is some noise but was also away from downtown noise. The bed was comfortable so that made up for it. There wasn't a tub which my wife wanted. All in all pretty decent. Got a great suggestion for breakfast (Shell Cafe).

Here is an honest review from a mom on our stay. We loved the view! From our second story room we loved seeing such a beautiful sight. However, next time I would get a first floor room only because my 2 year old son was quite loud thumping when he walked on the floors and if someone had been in the room below us they probably would have been quite bothered by it. The location was a little far from the town to walk with two small children, but I liked that it was a quieter location and felt safe staying there. There is beach access, but it was closed for updates during our stay. We look forward to using it on our next stay. The room we stayed in only had a shower, no tub for the kids, but the bathroom was updated and nice :) The room had a small fridge, microwave, Keurig, and basket of snacks. As previous reviews stated all of the staff members were nice and friendly. The windows opened just fine, we had hooks for the towels, and a bedside lamp. Overall, I think it was great value for the price!

From the moment we arrived we were treated like special guests. Small issues were attended to immediately and the staff was amazing. Thank you Jason the property manager for taking care of us. We will definitely be back.

This hotel checks the box on essentials. Clean, comfortable, large flat screen tv and free and fast wireless. Great price. That said bring your own lighting. They do have any bedside lights. No not kidding. Ask management why.

Of course it depends what you are looking for, but all in all this place wasn't bad.  I stayed here recently with my wife and 2 kids (3 &6).   It was close to the beach although the beach access at this hotel was closed. We could see the beach. I did not hear any loud noise as one reviewer stated, but maybe I was the loud noise. They checked us in right when they said they would which was actually early, but we called ahead to ask if we could.  That was nice. We got there about 30 minutes early and one of my kids had to use the bathroom and they did not have a bathroom in the front office or nearby.  They referred us to the hotel next door and said they also had beach access.  One of the other guests actually overheard it and said my kid could use their bathroom. It needs some renovation. Not all the windows opened.  There was no AC.   The upstairs handrail is in bad shape.  One good push and it could go over. The rooms were clean and the workers were nice enough. The cost was good and the TV worked. If you are expecting Shangri La for a hundred bucks a night- good luck. Unfortunately my wife watches that Hotel impossible so now I always think of that bald guy from the show when I am in a hotel. I think it was nice for the price.  It is a standard beach hotel.  You are not supposed to sit in your room all day anyway.  Room for improvement though.

As described in other reviews...a true gem! Great location, very inexpensive...An older property that has been nicely freshened up by the new owners, very clean!!! And friendly service. Perfect getaway spot! Seems to be a "family friendly" property as well.

  • Feb 09, 2015 by Karla G.

Sadly after many stays of 13 years, Im throwing in the beach towel on this one...Even after the renovation. In one word:Noise! I've been coming here for over 13 years with my family and was excited to see it got the renovation it deserved and a staff who was going to care! So, when I checked in on the 7th of Feb. I was really pleased to see the new carpet, flooring and paint! Then it started...The kids running up and down the stairs, the two families standing outside of the other's door having a 30 plus minute conversation after 8:00 PM, the yelling across the parking lot at 7:30 AM. All this even after management was called. The night before I finally step outside to ask the next door neighbors (who puts guests wall to wall and door to door in the off season with lots of vacant rooms?) if they could please take their family conversation inside the privacy of their room (something management should have done after they were called). Upon check out (I left a day early for The Dolphin Cove Motel--They get "it"!) I took the time to explain what their housekeeping so clearly understood--but management did not. She tried to argue the point instead. No compensation was even offered. Final notes: beds are hard, front door(s) have a 1/4 in. gap that needs an air strip around it to block out Freeway noise, and the shower heads point the water at the wall and not on the guest. So, unless upgraded to a more private unit, with little to no noise, softer beds and a shower that works...the beach towel is a I surrender sign

Nos alojamos de camino a San Francisco, buen precio, habitaciones confortables y buena ubicación, no puedo opinar mucho porque sólo fue una noche. Máquina de café expreso, te, tv, todo lo que necesitas para pasar una noche!

We stayed the night a couple of weeks ago after finding the Tides on Trip Advisor. I called for a reservation and asked if all the rooms had been remodeled and was told they were. I asked for an upstairs room which I was told we had. When we arrived we were greeted and checked in by a very pleasant lady and the manager. It was a very warm and sunny day and when we entered the room it was very warm and stuffy. It also smelled of new carpet and paint. I immediately tried to open the windows, but they were painted shut. I asked the manager if he could help us and he was able to get two of the windows part way open. However, the bathroom window was screwed shut and there was not fan in there, so that was not good. He informed us that the new owners were putting in new windows and he brought us a box fan. Plus: Clean and newly renovated rooms, great view of the ocean, great location. Minus: Windows didn't open, no ventilation in the bathroom, now towel bars or hooks for the towels, no bedside lamps, no chairs or bench in the room to sit. There is a desk, but no chair? The night stand blocked the closet door, so you couldn't actually use the closet. No privacy curtains on the windows. All the rooms have blinds on the very large windows which allow you to see directly into the rooms if you have them even halfway open to take advantage of the view. The stairs to the beach were closed. I spoke with a different lady at the desk the next morning and asked about the renovations. She said the new owners planned to completely redo the outside as well as the room remodels. Hopefully, they will take in to count the recent reviews and pay closer attention to details. At $100+ a night I would expect at least to be able to hang up a towel and turn on a lamp at night. A ceiling fan would make a great improvement on warm days with no AC.

  • Jan 25, 2015 by dndtravel2015

The young lady that checked us in was pleasnt . Then we got to the room. Dirty tile carpet, loose headboards .They were not screwed into the frame. The best part was on a beautiful 80 degree day with a great ocean breeze we find we cannt open a window. They are all painted shut.Stuffy / hot . No a/c & no ceiling fan.We were givin a box fan to use but please. We left w/o staying the night. My family and I visit Pismo several times a year and will not stay here again . I cant believe previous reviews didnot mention this problem .

I could tell this hotel recently went through a remodeling process. The beds and carpets were new. The rooms were relatively large. There was a Keurig coffee maker in our room. These things make great coffee. The view of the ocean from our window was amazing. Looking at this hotel from the street is kind of deceptive the way it's hidden. Don't let that fool you though. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel. The price was right. I feel like we got quite a bit of room for the price we paid. We both had a very good night's sleep at this hotel. The beds are very comfortable. I think we met the manager the first morning we were there. I believe hhis name was Jason. He was a really nice guy and possessed a great deal of knowledge about the Central Coast. His suggestions helped us to navigate the area like we were locals. I just love visiting this area and now that I found this hotel I know exactly where I will be booking a room when we return next year.

  • Jan 07, 2015 by belyintz

Yes the work was still being carried out but still a good motel and good value. There was an issue with our bill we didnt notice at the time, contacted them when we got home and the money was refunded within two hours of writing so great service. Once they iron out the renovation glitches it will be a top motel. Would not hesitate to recommend it.

  • Jan 02, 2015 by Ruby M

New owners took over early December and are updating this "mom 'n pop" motel with a great location on the cliffs above Pismo Beach. Note: you can not get to the beach from property, stairway needs to be rebuilt. I live locally but wanted a place to stay NY Eve close to the dance party I was attending. With AAA discount, I paid $84 for a room with no view, which I feel was too high for what I got. No bedside reading lamp, no towel bars (what to do with wet towels?), new LG tv, but channel selector did not work, only got CBS. Wifi was down depending on the weather, so they said. I've gotten a better room at the Motel 6 a few months ago for much less. Oh, and the walls are paper thin, seriously. Obviously the reno is light weight--plus the new toilets are for for kids, 14" high. Someone wasn't thinking this through. Doubt they have a handicap room available.

We spend one nite here 12/27/14 rooms were clean, big towels we also had a keurig coffee maker in our room! Looks like rooms had just been painted. We talked to the new owners they are making many improvements to the rooms, I would recommend this place to my friends,
